Based on a casual reading of the polls, Donald Trump looks to have smooth sailing to the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 and the chance to erase the stink of losing to Joe Biden that he so covets. But if that’s the case, why does Trump seem so panicky these days? Simple: Trump is in trouble, and — when you dig into the numbers — his grip on the GOP nomination is getting more tenuous. It is Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) who has all the momentum.

Reagan didn’t get rolled on amnesty?
Yeah, so smart he got out-smarted by Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi.
Yeah, he got rolled on amnesty. He got rolled on Iran-Contra too. At least he got two terms in office, and the SCOTUS picks that came with them.
“Another feeble attempt to divide the base, more like.”
Feeble is in the eye of the beholder!
I voted for Trump and if the election was today and if DeSantis ran he would get my vote.
It is good for us to have a choice! Much better than the last election cycle in 2016. Trump was the only “real” choice on the R side.
It’s real early. Time will tell how this plays out.
Is this Trump’s site or a conservative site?
To the old people on here that complain about anyone with a newer signup date, it’s just a personal fiefdom to try and boss around.
No matter how much the Democrats (and our Never Trumpers) hate Trump, he wins a one-on-one rematch with Biden. It's too easy to compare the Trump years and the Biden years and Biden has no answer for that. However, Trump has to be careful not to make this about Biden policies but instead about Democrat policies. Otherwise, I could see the Democrats doing a bait and switch. That's why he needs to make sure the voters see that the failure of this administration isn't Biden policies but Democrat policies so that a switch at the head of the ticket won't matter. If he can sell that, Trump will be fine against any replacement candidate for Biden.
Democrats may be more likely to force Biden to drop out [with DeSantis as the Republican nominee].
I think just the opposite. I don't think the Democrats want a Trump-Biden rematch and would rather have a Trump-anyone else matchup. I like Ron DeSantis but let's remember that he has not yet been exposed to a national campaign. Opposition to him will be mobilized. I think he would be a strong candidate but certainly, not unbeatable at the national level. I don't think the Democrats are so afraid of DeSantis that they'd replace Biden.
Corrupt news. 2022 is now.
We can wait until after Mid-Terms to have these discussions Newbie.
Screw off.
Yes
That may be the case with some but after you have been around FR for a while you will be able to see how it ramps up around here at election time with people who claim to be conservatives, to the right of Rush, use some supposed phrase to show their much deeper than you conservative bent, etc. etc.. but only hang around long enough to try and create hate and discontent amongst us.
Watch out for trolls, they will only get worse over the next couple of months.
This thread and the op is classic troll.
Did you ever hear the seminar callers to Rush through the years? This is exactly the same thing.
Dont be played a fool……..
Good damn question.
IMO it’s just a news message board and not something to get all worked up about and that ‘one of us’ style cult things that happens sometimes.
I would happily vote for either, and I agree that it's good to have a real choice. What I don't get is where all this Trump hatred is coming from. Yeah, he made a bunch of bone-headed moves as president, particularly in his cabinet appointments. He took a lot of bad advice from a lot of RINOs... his naivety is now pretty apparent. Hopefully, he's a lot more savvy now.
But he also did a lot of good -- tax cuts (particularly the corporate tax cut), energy independence, increase in manufacturing, et cetera And Trump also ignited the America First and MAGA movements among the Republican base. Those aren't just catchy campaign slogans... they're sentiments deeply rooted in Conservatism and patriotism.
It wasn’t a political choice when Trump himself got sick with Covid and allowed his doctor to not use either hydroxychloroquine or ivermectin. And after he recovered he didn’t realize that someone with natural immunity doesn’t need booster shots, which he proudly announced he had gotten. When it comes to Covid, Trump acts like a scared old man who bows to “medical authority”. He just doesn’t understand the nature of the FDA/CDC/NIH corruption problem, and DeSantis does. Trump did superbly on foreign policy, and they really ought to name a peace prize in his honor. But now we need someone even better, and that is Ron DeSantis.
Somewhat agree!
I have one problem with DeSantis. He’s a professional politician! I really really don’t want to vote for that type anymore. Probably can’t be avoided.
desantis is currently running for reelection for florida governor this year (2022)...
if he wins reelection he’ll be sworn in as florida governor january 2023...
you’re dreaming if you believe he’s starting a presidential campaign in 2023...
Well God forbid that we take on new members. I think it was a legitimate post. Right now Trump beats DeSantis. And if Trump runs, which is likely, DeSantis won’t.
There is really nobody else in the running. (Sorry Mike, you are wasting your time and ours.)
But this is 2022. We have billions of dollars being spent on bringing Trump down in the next two years. I expect that effort to fail. I certainly hope it does. But if not, DeSantis is going to get the nomination.
