THE US Supreme Court last night axed a New York law strictly limiting the carrying of guns outside the home.
In a landmark judgment, the court said the law was at odds with the Second Amendment, regarding the right to bear arms, of the US Constitution.
It follows a slew of mass killings, including the school massacre in Uvalde, Texas. President Joe Biden said he was ‘deeply disappointed’ in the 6-3 ruling by the court’s conservative majority, three of whom were appointed by Donald Trump.
Mr Biden said: ‘This ruling contradicts both common sense and the Constitution, and should deeply trouble us all.’
Around a quarter of the population will be affected by the decision.
New York’s law says people need ‘proper cause’ to carry a concealed handgun in public.
The challenge was brought by the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association

and two men seeking an unrestricted ability to carry guns outside the homes. Brooklyn district attorney Eric Gonzalez said: ‘New York’s strong gun laws have saved lives for more than a century, and the Supreme Court’s decision to open the door for millions of New Yorkers to carry a concealed weapon is a nightmare for public safety.’
New York mayor Eric Adams said: ‘We cannot allow New York to become the Wild West.’
The National Rifle Association said the ruling was a ‘watershed win for good men and women all across America’.
Meanwhile, a furious US politician told a British journalist to ‘go back to your country’ in a debate over gun laws.
Following an altercation over the Second Amendment, Republican Georgia representative Marjorie Taylor Greene said: ‘You have mass stabbings, lady. You have all kinds of murder and you’ve got laws against that.’
Channel 4’s Washington correspondent Siobhan Kennedy replied: ‘Not like the rates here.’ Ms Greene said: ‘Well, you can go back to your country and worry about your no guns.’
The reporter then replied: ‘That’s very kind of you.’
The Left is supposed to win everything. When this doesn’t happen, it’s a terrible anomaly, a temporary disturbance in the space-time continuum, the universal all which smiles upon our steady march to liberal utopia.
New York already is the wild west. Except now the good guys will be able to carry.

Average citizens protecting themselves from the vermin they themselves release upon the public and they don’t want a wild west
NY still will be able to set requirements for CCW - but the requirements have to apply to everyone, equally.

Funny. To me it seems as if this ruling also makes “Red Flag” laws illegal.
One armed and trained teacher could have minimized the Uvalde slaughter. They don’t care to hear about that.

There is no onerous process for changing the British Constitution equivalent to amending the U.S. Constitution. If the House of Commons wants to make a big change, like say eliminating the House of Lords, they can pretty much do it.
I have news for Adams, there are now more shootings in a month in New York City, than there was during the entire Wild West period (1866 to 1895).
There is a familiar pattern to the loosening of concealed carry laws. Almost always, politicians and the police issue hysterical warnings about how dangerous the proposed laws are and how gun crime and especially murders will increase. However, once the law passes, if anything happens the gun crime rates drop. Does anyone know of a case to the contrary?

The Wild West would statistically be an improvement on today’s NYC.
