On Friday, when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision establishing a woman’s constitutional right to an abortion, the three Democratic appointees — Justices Stephen Breyer, Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor — wrote a forthright response casting the majority’s decision as a blow to women’s civil rights.
“With sorrow — for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection — we dissent,” they wrote.
“Today, the Court … says that from the very moment of fertilization, a woman has no rights to speak of,” they continued. “A State can force her to bring a pregnancy to term, even at the steepest personal and familial costs.”
Citing laws that have already been passed in more conservative states and would now take effect, they warned of dire consequences in states that will now be free to ban abortion without exceptions for rape or incest, or when bringing a pregnancy to term risks the mother’s health.

Thomas’ opinion was based on the constitution.
The Wise Latina’s dissenting opinion ignored the constitution altogether and focused entirely on this emotion-based drivel.
Of course he wasn’t. The ‘rape’ argument is just more propaganda to frighten people into believing that women now have no recourse but to bear a child. It’s absolute nonsense and thoroughly dishonest.
The “actual language” and the lack of debate about new sweeping powers being given to the feds are both strong evidence that the 14A is limited to being a Post-Civil War Reconstruction Amendment.
You argue, but you don’t support your contentions.
So aborting the innocent bystander child makes it like the rape never happened?
I think that’s a decision for the woman who is raped to make.
You’re confusing who should do what here.
Art. IV, Sec. 4 is a mandate to the federal government to prevent invasion into any state. That is is federal government’s job. It really has nothing to do with empowering the feds in any way to regulate state gun laws.
Once again the liberals make a policy argument. They refuse to understand that the Supreme Court decides issues of law under the Constitution. It is not a policy making body. They should take their arguments to the elected representatives of the people.
More lies from the left. Plenty of states allow abortion.
In the state of Alabama there are no exceptions for rape or incest.
In that state a woman would be compelled to bear her rapist’s, or her father’s child.
So we know that condition exists in at least one state. And there are others.
“The ‘rape’ argument is just more propaganda to frighten people into believing that women now have no recourse but to bear a child. It’s absolute nonsense and thoroughly dishonest.”
What is nonsense is your denial there are states in the union which do not have a rape/incest exception for their abortion ban.
It could be you are ignorant of the matter. But your tone indicates you’re being deliberately dishonest.
“...who have today lost a fundamental ‘constitutional’ protection...”
Liars.
I had a similar thought during Brandon’s speech.
I am not certain I agree with your interpretation of the gun case. While I have not read the entire opinion, I have read portions and I have read other analysis. From my reading, it seems the gun case revolves around the right of New York State through the Sullivan law to infringe the Second Amendment by placing restrictions on the right to bear arms that were not intended by the Framers. If this is so, then the Opinion is sound.
I indicated no such thing.
There will be states that don’t allow it and states that do.
Women are free to go where they can get the treatment they want.
My objection to the ‘rape’ argument on the part of the liberal Supremes is that they are misleading people into fearing that abortion is now somehow outlawed nation-wide.
I can see where that can be tragic situation for the mother, but it's also extremely rare. So rare that it can't factor in to the larger implications of Roe being overturned.
thank you.
Then there’s the story where a liberal judge awarded custody of a child to the woman’s rapist and SHE has to pay child support. https://www.foxnews.com/us/woman-forced-give-up-daughter-rapist-pay-child-support
Except in blue states/cities where only the cops and street gangs are allowed to have guns.
