The National Mediation Board (NMB) on June 14 set in motion a ticking time bomb toward an economy-jolting national railroad shutdown within 90 days, its two Democratic members agreeing with rail labor—and over the remonstrance of carriers and the NMB’s lone Republican—that a voluntary agreement to amend unionized rail worker wages, benefits and work rules is not within reach.
Negotiations, dating to January 2020, involve 12 rail craft unions (bargaining in two coalitions collectively representing some 115,000 rail workers), most Class I freight railroads and many smaller ones. Management is represented by the National Carriers Conference Committee (NCCC). CSX is negotiating separately with two unions, representing train and engine workers, over wages and work rules (not benefits). Canadian Pacific negotiates separately with all its U.S. unions.
Although negotiations toward amending existing contracts began in January 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic delayed face-to-face collective bargaining, with early sessions conducted electronically. As contracts negotiated under provisions of the Railway Labor Act (RLA) never expire—amendments are retroactive to the start of negotiations—there is no bright line date to reach voluntary settlements.

Currently reading WW2 papers. You are right. Work stoppages and strikes were rampant. At ammunition plants and aircraft and tank plants!! One strike was called because a subcontractor hired CIO men instead of AFL men to build a paint booth at a tank manufacturing plant.
Another strike because 2 men did not pass the training classes and were fired.
A lot of unions were racist. Manpower was short, so blacks were hired. Heaven forbid if a black was promoted because of his skill, to a position where he just might tell a white person what to do.
Washington DC was very racist back then. Job listings were segregated. schools, even the draft boards. Blacks had to go to separate locations to even register for the draft.
I’m seeing ration cards just around the corner. No gas, food, water, power, or clothes.

I did some considerable research before making the decision to take the plunge. I'm not saying it's perfect (believe me, it's not), but I didn't decide to come here just for the the warm weather, the spicy food and the spicy and warm girls.
I’m currently looking for another job. While I would like to stay in Florida (this being the USA, the last redoubt), if I got wind of a fit in another country, I’d be willing to take a careful look. I think the USA is in major trouble, and a Republican sweep of the House and Senate this fall won’t change that very much.
I love the USA, but I still gotta eat.
I made my decision to leave back in 2012. The Tea Party revolution turned out to be coopted. Despite the damage that Obama did during his first term, the pubbies managed to nominate the one candidate who could’ve lost to him, etc.
The thing is that I saw we had basically lost the culture war. Fortunately, in the past couple of years, there have been some new additions to the field that are trying to make an impact. But a little too late? As Breitbart said, “Politics is downstream from culture.”
Didn’t tell anybody about my plans but any time I traveled somewhere I was looking where to go. Watched a lot of videos about the places that I was thinking about, etc.
My suggestion is to look at different bugout locations. Travel as budget and available time allows. Look at boring things in addition to sightseeing (rental costs, gas prices, food costs, etc). View a ton of videos from various sources.
EG, Thailand isn’t for everybody. The culture is way different than the US. The food is different. The writing is different (yes, there is English on signs, but not all). There are plenty of other expats here — but you have to be careful around them as a lot just do nothing but bitch about the country where they are living. The religion is different — e.g., the nearest Catholic parish to where I live is in the next province and it’s a fairly liberal parish so I don’t have too much interest in making the drive more than necessary.
But if Thailand isn’t good, the Philippines might be OK or alternatively Costa Rica.
I suggest that everybody...EVERYBODY...has a plan “B” and a plan “C”.
