WASHINGTON (AP) — One month ahead of President Joe Biden’s trip to Saudi Arabia, the District of Columbia is renaming the street in front of the Saudi embassy Jamal Khashoggi Way, trolling Riyadh for its role in the killing of the dissident Saudi activist and journalist in 2018.
With members of the D.C. Council in attendance, a Jamal Khashoggi Way sign was unveiled directly in front of the embassy’s main entrance.
“We intend to remind the people who are hiding behind these doors ... that we hold them responsible and we will hold them accountable for the murder of our friend,” said Sarah Leah Whitson, executive director of DAWN, the pro-Arab world democracy organization founded by Khashoggi prior to his death.
Whitson also criticized what she called the “shameless capitulation” of the Biden administration for seeking improved relations with the Saudi government and scheduling an official presidential visit to the kingdom.
The D.C. Council unanimously voted late last year to rename a one-block stretch for Khashoggi. The renaming is ceremonial, as signified by the brown street sign instead of the usual green, and it won’t impact the embassy’s mailing address. But the sign will remain indefinitely. An email to the Saudi Embassy seeking comment did not receive a response.

The foreign diplomacy of this administration is unmatched in US history.
That certainly will help make Biden’s visit to Saudi go well. Personal insults, helping Iran get nukes to use against Saudi, trashing the royal family, now this. And oh yes, we would like you to pump a bunch more oil and sell it to us please.
Congress needs to take away DC’s ability to govern itself and decertify its federal circuit court. Just fold it into whatever district Maryland is in. DC is clearly not capable of governing itself.

The irony is the only reason Khashoggi is an issue is because Trump was President at the time and so the left just wanted to use the issue to cause trouble for Trump. Had barky been President the whole issue would have gone immediately down the memory hole and no one but Khashoggi’s mother would remember him today.
If I were the Saudis I’d announce...*specifically* announce...that because of that stunt they were gonna cut their total production by 50%...knowing that the worldwide price per barrel would rise as a result,leaving them with the same income.

The Red Chinese used to do this sort of thing. In the sixties, Mao Tse-tung got into a spat with the Soviets, accusing them of “revisionism,” which apparently meant de-Stalinization and not taking a hard enough line against the West. So in 1966 they renamed the street on which the Soviet embassy in Peking stood. Its new name was “Street of the Fight Against Revisionism.”
