Ukrainian Presidential Advisor Says Nation is Losing 200 Soldiers Each Day

As heavy fighting continues, a senior advisor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that 200 Ukrainian soldiers are dying each day as casualties surge in Eastern Ukraine. Mykhaylo Podolyak told BBC News that the nation is heavily outgunned and pleaded for Western nations to deliver more heavy weapons.

“The Russian forces have thrown pretty much everything non-nuclear at the front and that includes heavy artillery, multiple rocket launch systems and aviation,” Podolyak said. The senior Ukrainian official went on to urge Western leaders to supply the nation with heavy weapons, saying there is a “complete lack of parity” between Ukrainian and Russian forces.

“Our demands for artillery are not just some kind of whim… but an objective need when it comes to the situation on the battlefield,” he said. Podolyak went on to state that Ukraine needs 150 to 300 rocket-based artillery systems to be able to match Russia.<

In an op-ed earlier this month, President Biden pledged to provide the beleaguered Ukrainian government with an advanced Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS). The administration announced the systems will be included as part of the recently passed $40 billion aid package going to Ukraine.

It is unknown how many launchers Ukraine will actually be getting, but the number appears to be well short of what the government is asking for.

Podolyak’s report that up to 200 Ukrainian troops are dying each day is higher than previously reported estimates. On Thursday, Ukraine’s Defense Minister, Oleksii Reznikov, said Ukraine was losing 100 soldiers a day, and 500 more were injured.

Podolyak points to a lack of artillery firepower as a massive contributor to rising casualties in Ukraine.

In addition, Podolyak told BBC that the Ukrainian government will not resume peace talks with Russia unless the latter surrenders all territory it has gained since February 24.

The Russian military has concentrated its attacks on the city of Severodonetsk, which is located in Luhansk Oblast. In a statement Wednesday, President Zelensky said that “the fate of the Donbas” is being decided in the city, which has largely been reduced to rubble amidst intense fighting.

On Thursday, Ukraine’s Defense Minister, Oleksii Reznikov, said Ukraine was losing 100 soldiers a day, and 500 more were injured.

So this new figure of 200 dead per day means 1000 put are out of action every day. They won't last long with such causualties.

If Ukrainian politicians are like American politicians, their main concern about the possible loss of 200 citizens a day is the political calculation, i.e., how does this affect me? How can I capitalize on their deaths?

The Russians have stated objectives in Ukraine but have said out loud they want this “special military operation” to result in a multipolar world.

It’s not a coincidence that energy-rich Russia invaded Ukraine at the very time western economies were heading into the toilet. For lack of energy the west is bleeding out.

All reports from Ukraine on both sides are suspect.

All should be viewed as crafted with an end toward giving one side or the other an advantage.

Reading the press releases of these actors is a waste of time. All are lies with a purpose.

“Vlad said Ukraine is just the start.”

You are right there. When the USSR broke open in 1991 there were 15 total states that made up the leaving land mass. I personally don’t think Russia, one of the states and under Putin, has the ability without additional funds, weapons, and people to get it all back. And in time, they will have to settle with what they can scrape up and ultimately go dry trying.

I feel it is the same problem the confederate states had during our civil war when they could capture the land and the people, but they couldn’t keep them as their supply lines broke down in their forward movement and they were forced to retreat and finally give up after getting deep into Pennsylvania. So Putin in his fantasy has killed a lot of people and the Ukrainians have been hokey to this and are assisting it.

Old Vlad will be lucky to get what he’s got so far. But—he at last has a goal that is doable. Trying to take Poland or even Romania is beyond his abilities now. Putin won when he shook hands with Xi of China. China will make sure they have a market for Russian oil and grain. India is helping too. China will prove to be a good ally (for now). We were fools to get them to work together. They are a eurasian power block.

The 500 a day wounded is also a drag on resources. I wonder how many are taken out by Covid? The hospitals must be full? Are they shipping them back to Poland? Germany? Russia can take the losses—Ukraine not so much. We are seeeing the war come to an end.

MSM has been completely hosing us with the war reports. Who is going to pay the price for that? A single reporter? A Defense Dept spokesman? An “unnamed source”? An “expert”?

“China will prove to be a good ally (for now).”

The problem for China is that trade with Russia cannot replace what China would lose if they lose trade with the West. All we have to do is threaten an embargo and China would ditch Russia in a heartbeat. Russia may sell them grain and oil, but Russia can’t sell them integrated circuits. Without integrated circuits, China can’t make cheap electronics to sell back to the West. So their whole economic base vanishes... or rather migrates to Taiwan, South Korea, the Philippines, etc.

you're sure about that?

What do you think Moldova will do? Join NATO or remain "neutral"? Finland and Sweden.... join NATO or debate and maybe put a pin on it and discuss it a little more? Baltics, they ARE in NATO. That's where everyone is going to get in trouble. Putin, Biden, EU, China... the rest of the world....

Because we have troops acting as a trip wire in Romania and the Baltics. Very dangerous times but at least we have competent leadership at the State Dept, DOD and intelligence community to advise our president....ugh.

It’s time to cut a deal and stop the war.

All our objectives have been accomplished. We’ve demonstrated that a broad attack on Western Europe by Russia can be repulsed. We’ve tested out a number of new weapons against Russian forces. We’ve used up a lot of obsolete weapons and left over munitions. We’ve exercised a variety of financial and trade sanctions.

There is not much more the US can learn from continuing the war.

Russia, China and India are natural allies since they all three face Islamic threats due to their own Islamic populations and Islamic countries on their borders.

Due to oil interests, the US and UK are natural allies of the Islamists, hence at odds with Russia, China, and India. For example, one of the major aims of the Ukraine war is to steer the EU away from Russian oil and to the Islamic oil produced by US/UK allies in the Middle East.

I refuse to take sides in this war, as well as argue with FR’s keyboard generals / warriors. All I know is this is bad for both the Russian and Ukranian soldiers and Ukrainian citizens.

The only beneficiaries are the politicians, bureaucrats, the arms manufacturers, big banks financing it and the news networks.

It’s tragic and stupid; As stupid as WWI.

There so many FReepers that have no “skin in the game” yet have chosen sides and rant / rave continuously in support of one side or the other, just like COVID. Idiots!

This is not a college football game.

Perhaps we should all push back from our keyboards and genuinely reflect rationally on what is really happening and what the results will mean for all of us when all is said and done.

This is supposed to be a forum for debate, heated and emotional, yet logical, thoughtful and intelligent. Most of what I have seen so far is anything but irrational and emotional idiocy. Anybody that presents an alternative opinion to what the Biden Admin, DNC and MSM report is chastised, ridiculed and insulted.

Perhaps it would help to remind ourselves that the very same people promoting this war and the countless billions of $ the US is spending are the very same people that have labeled all of us here on FR as white supremacists, domestic terrorists and insurrectionists, and want to shutdown, silence, arrest, imprison and even kill many of us here on this forum. Those being the Biden(Obama) administration, DNC, MSM, FBI, CIA, DOJ, and DHS.

Perhaps we should all keep that in mind before attacking each other.

Just a thought.

The hospitals in nearby cities (Kharkov, as example) are indeed overfull. A contact in central Ukraine commented on a large number of amputees he sees on the streets. As for Covid — yes, some are written off as Covid, this allows not to pay the families compensation. Others are written off as MIA.

One reason why the Ukrainians are now reporting the KIA numbers more honestly is because they want $5B monthly to pay compensations and salaries in non-working economy. This is on top of the military aid.

As for Russia — the losses are much less... simply because the Russians would use artillery until the enemy positions show little signs of life, only then they advance to check.

Ukraine is in a war for national survival, 200 per day is about 73,000 per year. We lost 20,000 in a day at Antietam. So I suspect they can go on quite a while at this pace.
