The unusual event unfolded last week at Temkin's Bar in Greenpoint, where video shows a crowd of horrified patrons looking on as Anchorage native Sarah Fulton picks up the possum.
Inside the bar, pandemonium erupted as patrons jumped up from their tables screaming to escape the unexpected vermin.
'I mean everybody just lost their minds, we couldn't believe it was happening,' bartender Rachel Bessemer told the NBC affiliate.
'I grabbed my phone, didn't know who to call, I was like, 'this is not what people do.''
Fulton, who grew up in the Alaskan wilds but now lives in New York, took control of the situation, declaring 'hold my phone, I'm from Alaska' -- a spur of the moment catchphrase that she is now selling on T-shirts.

Here on Long Island they are nocturnal visitors. One guy comes to my deck to see if the feral cat I feed has left any morsels. The answer is usually yes. He likes the dry food better than the can.
Or they can be picked up by the tail. Don’t act threatening, and only catch it from the rear. Distract it with one hand while catching it with the other from behind, and hold it away from your body.
I suspect that they can bite, though, if you’re clumsy. Might try heavy leather gloves. Don’t know whether or not they can bite through those.
Usually they play dead and you can sweep them out the door with a broom. I don’t know if they are so sanitary to touch—they are one of the few animals that eats roof rats so it’s good they are around.

Possum teeth are seriously scary. From a distance they look like white razor blades. Usually, they just crouch down and hope the humans will just go away. And, yeah, I just go away.
Big wup— picked up mature possums many times—especially when they have gone into their self defense “freeze” and were stiff as a board. Tail is like a handle on a fry pan.
I doubt if modern woke mixologists know what a Knobkerrie or Shillelagh are, but old timer bar tenders do. And has probably never heard of a “bung starter.”
Double LOL! Those city people probably thought it was a giant rat! Have 'em here at my rural Ohio BOL all the time. They dome in the house thru the cat door looking for food. They are generally slow and very stupid, but stay clear of those teeth.
