Uvalde School District Police Chief Pete Arredondo reportedly did not have his radio on him when he arrived on the scene at the Robb Elementary School shooting, where 21 people were killed, including 19 children.
That may have caused delay in Arredondo communicating with police dispatchers, according to the New York Times, citing a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation.
He instead used a cellphone and called a landline for the district police telling the dispatchers the gunman had an AR-15. He then, incorrectly at the time, said that Salvador Ramos was contained.

They probably thought these drills and plans are a lot of trouble and a waste of time; something like that will never happen in our little town.
Completely incompetent…caused more innocents to die undoubtedly…I foresee a cabinet level appointment for him in the wizard of oz administration…
Every single one of them should resign today.
They’ve completely destroyed whatever bond of trust may have existed between them and the citizens they swore to protect. The entire PD from the Chief on down need to be removed from their jobs by whatever means necessary.
This is the worst Law Enforcement failure since Columbine and they have no one but themselves to blame.
If I owned a business in Uvalde I’d have a big sign out front telling them they’re not welcome in my establishment.

When children are being shot, he wanted them to wait?
The question is who told him to stand down, we can guess
I would like to hear from the 19 officers in the hall. Did they concur and honestly believed they had the shooter contained in an area where all the damage was already done? There were over a hundred shots fired BEFORE they arrived. Or, were they agitating to go in? I’m seriously curous. What did it look like on the ground? Keep hearing about 911 calls but were they from the classroom where the shooter was or were they next door?
“Every single one of them should resign today.”
Mass suicide.
I’m stealing that one.
Thanks,
L
Feels like an op.
My daughter is in her final year of nursing school and experienced a real active shooter threat at the hospital where she works.
She said all the nurses panicked and blanked out. It took them several minutes to get their shyte together and remember what to do. Fortunately she was floors above the threat (fired employee) and hospital unit doors are always locked and the lockdown deactivates the id card readers that open them and the elevators also. Some wings also have double sets of doors (man trap) like OB and NICU to prevent infant theft.
So all they really do is direct ambulatory patients to hide in their bathrooms while the nurses pull all the privacy curtains and close the room doors and then go lock themselves in the janitors closet.
> I see the photos of Arredondo with 4 stars on his epaulets... <
I taught for decades in a big-city school district. Our school police chief dressed like a British admiral. Every time I saw him I was tempted to yell out, “Ahoy there!”
And to make the farce complete, our school police aren’t armed, and have no access to arms. Now, I was a lab teacher. I kept some tools in my desk to make small equipment repairs. So when I was holding a screw driver I was actually better armed than our entire school police force.
Arredondo failed the kids and two teachers when his community needed
him most. He failed the leadership test.
Arredondo is a blithering incompetent fool. Many lives could have been saved but they bled out because of him. I just read that the police held the parents back at gunpoint. This is totally unbelievable. Therefore this POS was sworn in as a city council member and will become mayor of Uvalde in short order. Anywhere else he would have been put in prison by now. This is beyond incompetence and corruption, he is a criminal.
That’s a nifty trick.
Assume the Incident Commander role without communications.
Doesn’t matter how many times the narrative gets changed to lighten the disgust of this Police Chief because every time something is added or changed it still makes him look like a incompetent moron.
Shouldn’t even matter. Officers who entered the building had actionable intell and should’ve been on a tactical autopilot. Senior command had no business making any tactical decisions.
Sounds like “putinesque” C2I.
The only order that should have been issued and followed was “let’s roll” by the lead man in the stack.
The Uvalde/School district LE command climate must’ve been very centralized for 19 officers in the building to not act on their own initiative based on real time Intel.
“The only order that should have been issued and followed was ‘let’s roll’ by the lead man in the stack.”
He should’ve said that immediately after saying, “’Run to the gun’ like we learned in training.”
Neither happened, sadly.
And impose a gag order on you. What happened to Freedom of Speech?
