Turkey has told the United Nations that, at the behest of its president, it wishes from now on to be called "Turkiye" in all languages, the UN announced on Thursday (Jun 2).
"The change is immediate," Stephane Dujarric, the UN chief's spokesperson, told AFP by email.
He noted that Ankara's official letter requesting the change had been received at the UN's New York headquarters on Wednesday.

[They still hate Armenians]
Will Hungary be far behind?
Will the press fall all over themselves to accommodate the new spelling, the way they took Kiev and made it “Kyiv”?
Russian spellings, among others, have a lot of variations. Like Czar or Tsar? Is it -ov, -off, -of, or -ow?
All the more reason to double down on the original spelling.
As near as I can tell, the Ukrainian government started pressuring English language media in 2018 to start spelling it "Kyiv."
“Kiev” is the way the Russians pronounce.
I can understand Ukrainians wanting to pronounce it their way.
That Ukrainian government loves to act like they are in charge.
It’s Kiev.
That’s called newspeak in a known book that wasn’t supposed to be the operating manual. It was Kiev for a thousand years, until in 1992 someone decided otherwise.
I still like the Congo, Ceylon, and Peking.
And Burma.
HENCEFORTH LET IT BE KNOWN THAT I SHALL BE CALLED “THE FREEPER FORMERLY KNOWN AS MARTY” thankyewverymuch
well, of course you do. It’s much easier to say “Peking duck,” than “Beijing duck.” 😀🤭🤔

Some do, no doubt, but not
1. As per polls most don’t hate Armenians.
2, in western parts of Turkey, the general opinion is remorse for the Armenian genocide. Not so much in the east except among the Kurds (who were the main perpetrators)
HaHA....my thoughts exactly. I guess Turkiye will now be demanding $600B per year for rebuilding and stuff... :0)
Is this a new competitor to the Bab Bee?
Just call it Wesuckyiv
They should have a contest for the new name.
My submission: Worstplaceiyever
Buncha jive turkiyes.
Can’t really blame them. “Turkey” can be a pejorative.
