A Robb Elementary School employee did not leave a door open to the building before last week's deadly school shooting in Uvalde, her lawyer said, refuting authorities' previous claims as the department faces backlash for its changing story around the massacre.
Attorney Don Flanary told San Antonio Express-News reporter Guillermo Contreras on Tuesday that the unidentifiable employee did prop open a door to the school, but shut it when she saw the gunman, who eventually entered and massacred 19 children and two adults on May 24.
Flanary told the Express-News that the employee remembers kicking away the rock used to prop open the door and pulling it shut as she spoke to police about the gunman shooting outside the school.
"She remembers pulling the door closed while telling 911 that he was shooting," he told the newspaper. "She thought the door would lock because that door is always supposed to be locked."
Director of Texas Department of Public Safety Steven McCraw alleged on Friday that security footage shows the back door of the school was propped open before the shooting, and the gunman used it to enter the school before barricading himself in a classroom.
McCraw described the person who propped open the door as a teacher, who he said called police at 11:30 a.m. that morning after the gunman crashed his vehicle in a nearby ditch and shot at passersby.
Three minutes later, McCraw said the gunman entered the school through the door.
Texas Department of Public Safety didn't immediately provide a response to the teacher's claims.
Since last week's mass shooting in Uvalde — the country's deadliest at an elementary school since Sandy Hook in 2012 — law enforcement officials have made crucial changes to the attack's timeline at least a dozen times.
Enraged parents have questioned why it took over an hour for officers inside the school to confront the gunman; the latest explanation from Texas DPS pointed the finger at the school's police chief who was leading the response, who McCraw alleged refused to send police in because he thought no children were in danger.
If a lawyer says it, it must be somehow technically true.
“His ‘big plan’ was to just randomly run to doors and he hit the door lotto and got the one that was open?”
I doubt his plan was dependent on someone leaving a door open. He had the firepower to blow open the door.
The Twitter video made by some girls in a house across the street from the door clearly showed the shooter simply opened the door and walked in. Either the door was propped open or it was unlocked.
What is the chance that the first door the shooter went to just so happened to be one which was not secure? He started shooting when he was 100 meters from the school there is no way people inside didn’t hear it.
They only contradict each other when they’re on the defensive.
It looks like the teacher who propped open the door has been identified and has admitted doing so.
“I thought the door closed [it didn’t] after I kicked the rock holding the door open [didn’t check if secured or pull it closed] AFTER I already knew there was a madman shooting at people out front” is a weak after-action excuse.
It was a high stress life&death situation that this teacher, and virtually no-one here commenting, has been in. Probably didn’t sit there penciling out scenarios but kicked the rock [if true, appears to be evidence this didn’t happen] and ran to hide. Tough situation, but I do hate the ‘it wasn’t really my fault’ excuse making.
Don’t forget- according to the timeline posted at the Daily Mail, the shooter first shot at two people at a funeral home across the street before heading to the school, and a police car passed by.
Tell me again why a teacher needs a lawyer? And, oh, yeah, who’s paying for said alleged lawyer?
that makes sense......
The teacher is covering her butt or trying to. why else does she need an attorney. she is guilty .
Her actions had consequences.
And, if you don’t believe this narrative, tomorrow we will have a different one!
By the time a few months have passed, the “powers that be” will have muddied the story so much that no matter what you say about the Texas school shooting, you will be told that story has been “debunked” or is just a conspiracy theory.
As a matter of fact, the cops immediately went into the school and heroically engaged the killer and saved numerous children from the white supremacists who used the evil automatic AR-15 machine gun to kill those Ukraine refugee toddlers.
“Someone propped open the door with a rock, though.”
Bet is on the two guys out back. Probably janitors having a smoke or something.
I believe the idiot left the door open. who is paying at this point it could be anyone? If i was the idiot that decided to sneak a smoke and accidently let in the shooter I would lawyer up immediately and pay for the lawyer. it does not get expensive unless criminal charges happen.
In so many words the Teacher’s Lawyer is calling the Director of the DPS a bald faced liar!!!!!
Something tells me the DPS has a video of the door being propped open.
Otherwise, the DPS would not tell the world that a teacher at such and such time propped open the door.
“The Twitter video made by some girls in a house across the street from the door clearly showed the shooter simply opened the door and walked in. Either the door was propped open or it was unlocked.”
Can you share a link to this video showing a door being opened? The only video I’ve seen is from the side, and the entry is obscured. The door is recessed several feet into the building.

That is what I was thinking.
I guess the next thing that happens is. “The camera was out of order” or “The video was lost/overwritten.”
“her lawyer said”
LOL!
Ok their heads are behind a tree but it looks like they are carrying something on their belts. These were not the people being fired on at the funeral home, that’s down the street.
Why haven’t these people been interviewed? They are at the very least witnesses to the crime.
From the picture it seems they were only 20 meters away from the shooter. If they were passerby’s you would expect them to be running for their lives.
Good catch.
It was a high stress life&death situation that this teacher, and virtually no-one here commenting, has been in. Probably didn’t sit there penciling out scenarios but kicked the rock [if true, appears to be evidence this didn’t happen] and ran to hide.
The building entered was closest to the gunfire directed at funeral home, the office was on the other side of the school. Why didn’t 110/111 hear her? They were showing a movie with their doors closed but unlocked. By the time the office announces a lockdown the gunman is already in the building and likely has already gotten into 110/111.
This is all speculation on my part and it doesn’t answer the question why the door didn’t lock/was propped open and much more importantly why the police waited an hour or so before entering the classroom where kids were dying.
