Teachers should not carry guns, despite alarming school shootings (not a total barf alert)

State Inspector General’s Office can be tweaked to watch when funding is direct for that purpose and only that purpose.

We know public school budgets in many regions are slush funds.

As is the case with the second amendment... if you do not wish to exercise your right, you do not have to, just do not infringe upon those who will save your life.

See my reply re: defining "competence."

Yes. not every teacher is pushing a leftist agenda.

But just think about the answer to "HOW"?

We aren't talking about the normal people running the show ...this would be administered by a bureaucracy and talent pool akin to the efficiency and competence of the DMV, and the neutrality of Merrick Garland.

“.... The intel agencies frequently confuse themselves with special ops personnel. ...”

In my experience, those people post-Intel career and their booking agents purposely blur the difference between what they did and special ops. They also rely on TV\movies, etc. to keep that distinction confused. More money that way!

There would have to be a volunteers only stringent screening program followed by rigorous training. The ones that survive would be armed. This is going on in many places already. I’d almost go a step further and require firearms proficiency to get a teaching certificate.

Wishful thinking though...the filthy teachers union would have a fit.

Secure the damn school. The kid got in because a teacher had propped open a door.
*********
Why not also put a combat-experienced cop in every school — with a pistol, a bullet proof vest, and access to a safe with some real firepower?

Yes, the back door was propped open. My guess is that the teacher was going back and forth to her car packing up stuff to take home (the other teacher was with the kids.

It’s important to remember that the Sandy Hook killer shot his way into the school even though the doors were locked and you had to be ‘buzzed in’.

Unless the armed, trained cop happened to be where the Uvalde entered the building, it would have likely made no difference to the outcome if I understand the timeline correctly. The shooter got into the building, went to the room, unlocked—why? and locked the door behind him. The locked classroom door apparently managed to keep several—how many? LEO forces out, while the killer dispatched his victims.

I hesitate because most teachers are leftist socialists. Why arm Fidel Castro?

If you do not want to bre killed with your own gun, the rule #1 to prevent it is that you keep your gun in your possession and under your control at ALL times. Never ever forget it.

This discussion will last forever with no resolution.

Because the dims want it to go on until every single gun now in the hands of a civilian is melted down as scrap iron.

These school shootings are the best thing that ever happened to a dim.

Never forget these are the same people that put grandmothers sick with wu-flu in rest homes, denied hundred of thousands of others care that would have made their illness no worse than common flu, who kill millions of babies every year and who insist that everyone get the clot shot.

But you think “Surely they would not rejoice over a school shooting”.

You think that because you have a quality, a spirit of decency that dims do not have.

My own opinion is that dims have a gene mutation or maybe even the lack of a gene that those who have a clear concept of right from wrong and the courage to take the correct path have. I believe this simply because you can never reason with them.

Very true.

I live in an open-carry state. And one day I’m shopping at a Target, and there’s this guy open-carrying. He’s looking intently at some item on a shelf. His entire focus is on that item. There is no doubt in my mind that I could have taken his gun had I wanted to.

I’m sure this guy knew the basic rules. But folks get careless and complacent. That’s why I greatly prefer concealed carry.

Side note to the FBI snoops: I’m speaking hypothetically here. I lost all my guns in a tragic boating accident years ago.

“As a former staff operations officer at the CIA and former FBI special agent”

What would you expect a Gestapo agent to say.

If I were the ruler over education in The United States I would do the following...
1. Hire ex-military marks men/women.
2. Pay, in full, for any required degrees (history, math, etc.....upon completion of a 4 year teaching contract.
3. All new teachers must carry in the school.
4. Allow existing teachers to stay, if they feel safe enough to do so.

No, I do not think that. There is too much evidence to the contrary. If the weapon used is a gun and the victims are primarily identifiable minorities it becomes a national tragedy, if the weapon used is car, the perp black, and the victims white, it’s a vehicular accident and the logistic of a Presidential visit are too complex.

If I were the ruler over education in The United States I would do the following...

Before all of your steps, I'd impose step 0.1: eliminate compulsory education and the attendant confiscatory lever of taxation.

After that, then it is up to parents and the providers of whatever education set-up to sort it out.

Some will like your set up.

Some will opt for fewer controls, more diversity, more trans, less trans, more authoritiarianism, more conservative, more liberalism, etc.

Some will have high costs, some will be by invitation, some will be charitable.

Some will be run by hippies, or military men, or ecologists, or libertarians, or unions, etc.

Some won't have racial, gender, or sexuality quotas. Others...

Some will focus on STEM, others on social justice, some on the arts, some wil, be agrarian, and some will have mandatory firearms training.

Some loser parents won't educate their kids. That'll be a problem. It's a local problem. It'll get sorted out locally.

I have little hope for a repeal of compulsory education laws or elimination of property taxes. Lots of people - liberals AND conservatives - LOVE these pillars of American life for the past 100 years. They whine and gripe about CRT, corporate intrusions, politicized curriculum, vigilant parents, taxes, grooming, unions, and shootings. But in the end, they love control, and as long as the public eats up band aids versus killing the rot at the source, the 10th plank of the Communist Manifesto will thrive.

As someone suggested, competency would passing a background check, taking a complete CCW class with additional modules for several supplemental areas (kind of like personal protection inside and outside with situational awareness, law, shoot don’t shoot scenarios, etc). I Would envision this as a full 40 hour class and practical exercises, with a passing practical shooting test at least equivalent to off duty/retired police officer qualification. Lots of opportunity to weed out problematic people.

To answer your question, you need to look at the graphic changes in schools in many relevant ways BEFORE 1962 and AFTER 1962.

THAT is definitive proof that God, prayer, and the Bible are very effective in creating a safe environment while banning them creates mayhem.

BTW, what is someone like you doing on FR?
