Texas cops have revealed that there was no armed guard on campus when the gunman arrived on Tuesday which allowed him to walk 'unobstructed' through an unlocked door and into the building where he slaughtered 21 people.
At a press conference on Thursday afternoon, Victor Escalon, the Regional Director for the Department of Public Safety South Texas, said Salvador Ramos walked through an unlocked door 'unobstructed' and that there was no guard 'readily available'.
It contradicts earlier reports that he fired at a school resource officer.
Ramos entered the school at 11.40am, 12 minutes after crashing his truck outside the school and walking towards campus with his AR-15. That is when police were alerted to the scene.
At 11.44am, the first cops entered the school. Ramos shot at them and they retreated.
It's unclear if he had already shot the kids and teachers in the fourth grade classroom by then, or if he went on to attack them after those cops retreated.
It then took an hour for specialized SWAT teams to arrive. At 1.06pm, the incident was declared over after Ramos was shot dead.
In the meantime, 150 cops were gathering outside. Some of them were filmed pinning parents to the floor and some were even placed in handcuffs, according to witnesses.

In the nursing station with a stomach ache?
Leaving doors unlocked?
What was that fed car doing at the shoot Mohammed event? FBI escort for a mass shooter. Nice touch.
They were “monitoring the situation” as a fellow gamer had reported the shooter’s threat to shoot up an elementary school online per the Sun (UK).
Horrifying. They should all be fired. Like cowards at Parkland sitting outside.
That’s BS. I’m in a small town in Missouri and every damn sheriff’s deputy and local cop is wearing body armor 24/7. I can guarantee that there were at least 50 standing around with plates.
I run a new car dealership, and they’re wearing plates while in the waiting room getting their oil changed.
also - he did not enter the main door, the front door. He entered through a side or back door which should have been locked - an exit only door.
Armed teachers would be even less effective.
Look how angry people get at better trained folks. You’d have parents screaming at teachers why didnt you rush in and save my kid?
Cowards. Children were at risk, and then many were killed because these cowards turned and ran.
The more that comes out the worse it gets. That town should fire and replace every police officer and set an example to motivate the cowards the next time it happens in Texas. I doubt that sheriff gets re-elected.
I wonder how many of them had either ARs or pump/semiauto shotguns in their cars. I’ll bet most of them did. And you’re 100% right — you don’t retreat and wait while an armed attacker is going after unarmed children.
Wasn’t there any Social Workers available?
We found out today a girl shot five times was there in the room and thanks to surgeons and God’s grace she is expected to fully recover.
How many more may have been saved had police acted instead of putting up police tape and putting parents in cuffs?
Not the first time that happened. Columbine? Sandy Hook? Same stuff, different day.
quite a few LEOs with tactical gear, including two US Marshalls. At least two LEOs wearing tactical gear that included a helmet. And they all stood around waiting for a special team from Border Patrol.

Cops had plenty of gear to go after shooter but didn't for whatever reason.
“Nineteen children gave their lives so that dozens of police officers could go home to their families that night..”
That’s the point worth making.
Cowards, every last one of them.
L
Aren’t they trained to attack. I understand if someone is shooting at you take cover. But at least drop down prone and shoot back. I bet if they shot at him he would run. Or graze him the coward would have given up or turned his gun in himself. Easy for me to say but I haven’t been trained like they have.
COWARDS!
And if there is security cameras why could the cops not have gotten logged in and located him quickly to know where to enter.
It was learned at Columbine.
The Uvalde police and Sheriff are slow learners.
I don’t like criticizing because I don’t know what I would have done if I were there. However, if there were “trained” police officers who waited even a second before charging into the school (knowing there was an active shooter inside), they failed the children in there who didn’t have the ability to defend themselves. Those officers will have to live with their cowardice the rest of their lives. This is another exhibit in the wussification of America.
