The latest snapshot of the halting count in Pennsylvania’s Republican U.S. Senate primary shows Dr. Mehmet Oz maintaining a 902-vote lead over David McCormick.
But with about 10,000 potential votes left to count across all parties and an automatic recount ordered, McCormick’s campaign has shown no appetite for making a concession now.
All 67 counties were required to make a report to the Pennsylvania Department of State of their unofficial counts by the close of business Tuesday, along with an accounting of what tallying is still left to complete. Acting Secretary of State Leigh Chapman said Wednesday those reports showed Oz leading the race by less than one-tenth of a percentage point, with 419,365 votes, to McCormick’s 418,463.
The 902-vote lead is the most important thing to Oz, the 61-year-old heart surgeon-turned-daytime television star who has described his Senate run as the product of a decision to move from being a prominent commentator on problems to taking a role where he can work directly on fixing them. Oz, a longtime New Jersey resident, gave up his daily show and moved to Pennsylvania to make his race.
But just as importantly to McCormick, State officials stated there are still potentially several thousand Republican primary votes left to count - including mail-ins, civilian overseas and military ballots, and provisional votes - leaving the former Wall Street hedge fund manager a glimmer of hope that there’s some room for the final result to flip.
McCormick’s campaign is also trying to grow the pool of uncounted votes. Its attorneys have gone to state appellate courts this week for orders requiring all county election boards to include 860 mail-in ballots that were returned signed but undated into the count, reflecting a federal court decision last week in an unrelated Lehigh County judicial race from 2021.
McCormick’s team reasons that any growth in the mail-in ballot count could be helpful in its quest to catch up to Oz since, through Monday night, McCormick was leading oz in that category of votes, by 32.1 percent to 23.1 percent. At that rate, McCormick hypothetically stands to gain about 90 votes per every 1,000 added to the count.
But at this stage, it did not appear there were enough mail-in votes left in the count for McCormick to close that gap.
The eventual winner of the GOP race will advance into what is expected to be a hotly-contested and nationally-watched general election campaign against Pennsylvania’s Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, who easily won the Democratic Party nomination for the seat being relinquished by incumbent U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey.
In the three actually recounted the results were unchanged.
It estimated that the recount will cost taxpayers at least 1 Million.

Ping!
Like it matters....
Turd #1 vs Turd #2 regardless of if the recount changes anything....
GOP of PA Swamp wins again...
McCormick should do take the honorable path:
Decline the recount and concede.
Anything for the “Team Mitch RINO” to eeek it out.
I saw a Conversation about this on TV this morning.
McCormick is asking/suing to have undated mail-in ballots counted.
The head of the RNC is opposing/suing to prevent that on the legal argument that Penn state law does not permit it.
Politically the RNC argument is that law should be held up as not doing so will certainly be exploited by the Dims whenever they can.
I think McCormick should wait for the recount and stop asking that the Penn state law on undated mail in ballots be ignored.
Paging Dr Soros!
Paging Dr Soros!
Pease shut down the printing presses and answer the school basement phone...
” ...undated mail-in ballots...”
At least they are counting them separately. If they don’t make a difference, then I assume McCormick will concede, but if they do make a difference, Hel will be unleashed.
*McCormick should do take the honorable path:

If he wants to challenge Casey in 2 years. Newt explained how a lot of successful politicians lose once or twice before winning. Some don’t have the patience(or drive) like Reagan did. The country was not ready for him to bring down the Soviets in 1976. The country(+GOP) was not ready for Trump in 2000.
We don’t need McCormick and his election / mail in ballot schemes
Apparently, PA cannot count ballots in what? two weeks? Are elections a new thing in PA? Most places can announce the results the evening of the election.
McCormick is dragging this out hoping for enough manufactured ballots to pull out the win. He knows how things work in Pennsylvania.
“At least they are counting them separately.”
My recollection of what news I heard from it is they only know how many there are (in some count(ies)) but the votes on them are not as yet being counted from them as Penn state law says votes on undated mail in ballots cannot be counted. But McCormick is seeking to have them counted and the RNC is arguing against it.
"Sign and date the outside of the return envelope" If you do not, your ballot will not be counted.
Yeah, McCormick is really turning out to be jerk. Suing to have undated ballots count hurts the party and helps the rats. So another traitor is revealed
Yea, and as much as I was no big fan of Oz, he’s in better stead on this issue, right now. But we don’t know if he’d take the same tack or not as McCormick is doing if Oz was the one slightly trailing at this point. Politics sometimes makes people place politics (winning) over principles.
“... gain about 90 votes per every 1,000 added to the count.”
Not a winning percentage.
Looks like Trump pulled Oz across the goal line.
