Russia 'has lost as many men in its three-month Ukrainian invasion as it did during entire NINE-YEAR war in Afghanistan due to poor tactics and leadership'

Russian losses in Ukraine over the first three months are likely to have already surpassed those of the Soviet-Afghan war which lasted nine years, the UK Ministry of Defence has said.

The Soviet Union's losses are estimated to be around 15,000 killed in the Afghan war, with an additional 35,478 wounded and 311 missing.

'The Russian public has, in the past, proven sensitive to casualties suffered during wars of choice,' said the UK government ministry, which did not name the exact figure.

'As casualties suffered in Ukraine continue to rise they will become more apparent, and public dissatisfaction with the war and a willingness to voice it may grow.'

Poor tactics, limited air cover, a lack of flexibility, and a command approach reinforcing failure and repeating mistakes has led to the high casualty rate, said the ministry.

The UK's Secretary of State for Defence Ben Wallace previously estimated that approximately a quarter of Russia's battalion tactical groups were 'not combat effective.'

Terrible losses, on both sides.

While the Russians are still incurring casualties and equipment losses, Ukrainian army is pinned down in trenches and being pulverized. They are putting up a stiff defense with prepared positions, but as the US Army learned in Italy in WW2, advancing under these conditions requires leveling any strong point with artillery.

I hope for all that this war stops soon. Russia and Ukraine are both bleeding away a generation.

The Russians have likely lost more soldiers in Ukraine than in Afghanistan, possibly almost twice as many so far. But the impact on Russian sentiment takes time as well as numbers. The losses have to percolate through society as people become aware of the impact in a more personal way.

That’s why Putin is using Buryati and Dagastani and Chechens as cannon fodder instead of mallrat tick tockers from Moscow and St Petersburg.

“This debacle will be the end of NATO, the EU and the Petrodollar and you can blame it on the West’s feasting on its own propaganda.“

Indeed. It is also why Putin hasn’t called up a mass mobilization yet, which many observers were expecting.

“But should we be paying Norway gigantic money for gas -- four or five times more than we paid a year ago? This is sick,” Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said.

A year ago, when you were buying cheap Russian natgas, you forgot to say, Mateusz old pal.

Stupid should hurt.

Russia has deployed about 15% of its professional forces

The RGF has a total of 260,000 active troops, aka “professional forces”. They deployed >150,000.That looks like a bigger percent than 15.

The Russian Army is good at looting and raping pre-pubescent boys and girls. You must be a real sicko to be cheering on the eleven-time zone country against the one time zone country. You must like it when they wave the old Soviet flag on the territory they stole that hasn’t already been liberated by Ukraine.

‘’ I’m genuinely surprised Daily Mail didn’t claim Russia’s Ukraine losses surpassed WW2.’’

——-

Give em time. Ukrainians are being clobbered at the moment with even Zelensky saying they are losing 50-100 a day.
