The FDA is sitting on it’s saddle for 3 months since Abbot closed production down to find the cause of what made 4 infants sick. 2 died. They found it was not their formula but the FDA has yet let them reopen.
There is you cause the Government once again!
Just look at all the problems we are having with shortages. It all evolves mack the to Government causing it one way or another.
an uptick in births in early 2022 has corresponded with a “very dramatic decline in rates of breastfeeding” among new mothers, which pushed up demand for formula once again.
FDA regulation of formula is so stringent that most of the stuff that comes out of Europe is illegal to buy here
Demand for formula surged as parents hoarded in 2020; then demand fell, leading suppliers to cut back production through 2021;The Department of Agriculture has a special group called WIC...the largest purchaser of infant formula in the United States,...As a result, the U.S. baby formula industry is minuscule, by design... three companies accounted for practically all U.S. formula sales: Abbott, Mead Johnson, and Gerber.
The Democrats
Jo Jo the Pedophile Clown gave it to all of the illegal aliens if they’d let him sniff their kids.
I definitely agree with you. I haven’t made any statement suggesting that formula is at all superior, though it’s very useful in certain situations. It’s also necessary for a lot of families right now, and the shortage is a real problem.
This wacko article makes no mention of the huge amounts of formula being shipped to the southern border to the illegal aliens, who should have been deported.
Agreed it’s too late for current formula feeding moms to start breastfeeding now. But let this be a cautionary tale for all current and future pregnant women. The supply issue of formula is yet another reason to breastfeed. Our bodies are made to breastfeed. I was responding to the poster who claimed formula is “easier.” For 99% of new moms it actually isn’t. You have to buy it, mix it, warm it, and it is expensive and now scarce. And formula is an inferior product (by quite a bit). Breastfeeding is great for mom too. Releases serotonin and helps take off the pregnancy weight.
Well, people are going to make their own decisions, and not everyone agrees. I leave breast feeding vs. formula to those for whom it’s an issue.
But President Trump was able to take the pharmaceutical industry, the FDA, trade issues, the Mexican government, etc, all by the horns to solve lots of different problems. Biden apparently doesn’t have the ability - or the balls - to do anything like that.
No. The shortage of those is more pernicious and enduring than even the toilet paper shortage.
Yes Trump would have been knocking CEO’s heads together by now and would have started operation formula warp speed by now. Biden doesn’t give a crap. Today buttigeg said “the government doesn’t make formula.”
I’m first and foremost happy to hear about any woman who is able to breastfeed their children with little to no issue. However, not all mothers have the same experience and its ignorant to assume all mothers can do this easily. Some dont produce at all, some not enough. Then there all the rates of thresh and mastitis. Then you make it 6 months and think you are in the clear. That’s when they grow teeth.
We should continue to encourage all mothers the path of breastfeeding. Just have to be careful to not judge the mothers who dont. Many mothers are guilted so bad for not breastfeeding that they start off motherhood with the belief that they are a failure to their child. Very few are choosing formula because they simply dont want to breastfeed.
That's what's behind it. Oral gene therapy for babies.
rare infection, gee how many times has this happened?
Seems the liqueur and beer is always available. They want us drunk with happiness and they want your money.
My son was born in 1963. At that time baby formula was unknown we mad them from scratch using Karo and I don’t remember what else. I am sure there are Freepers who do.
You have to have it before you can give it. Only a % of breasts are available and I’m sure they’re not selling!
“The Department of Agriculture has a special group called WIC...the largest purchaser of infant formula in the United States,...As a result, the U.S. baby formula industry is minuscule, by design... three companies accounted for practically all U.S. formula sales: Abbott, Mead Johnson, and Gerber.”
Went by the baby formula isle at my local supermarket this afternoon (I’m 70 plus so just curious) shelves were mostly empty and limit 2 signs.
Probably will get some push back on this but the WIC program is a government thing that seems to work. Have never heard any kickback etc. stories about it.
Uh..you successfully nursed 4 kids. Want a medal?
You’re preaching for more breastfeeding. God, I hope you’re not one of those people who make non-nursing moms feel bad about their choice.
Anyhooo...the point of my post is this: This post is about the lack of baby formula. It’s not about the choice between the bottle or the boob. It’s not about how super cool nursing moms are.
I must have missed the part where you offered a solution to the parents whose kids require formula. Did you give the recipe for Pet milk and karo syrup and I missed that too? Do you have any solutions?
Oh ya, and before you get all Karen defensive on me, I breast fed our kids (2). Alas and lack, I have no medal for that!
America's shocking political class, of course.
