I think after his candidate Parnell had to drop out, Trump wanted to stop McCormick, who would be another McConnell schill.

So he endorsed Oz. He should have endorsed Barnette, but he may not have thought she could win in November.

Your last point is a big one. I suspect Barnette is the least likely of the three to win in November.
