Supreme Court’s Roe ruling would trample the religious freedom of every Jewish American
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | May 7, 2022 | Daniel Bogard and Tana Senn

The Supreme Court draft opinion overturning Roe v. Wade sent shock waves throughout our country when it was leaked this week. If the ruling stands, abortion access would be decimated in huge swaths of the country, and the rights of Americans everywhere will depend on whether they happen to live in a blue state or in a red state. Beyond being a violation of the human rights of pregnant people, limiting access to abortion is an imposition of governmental Christianity on us all.

And it infringes on the religious liberty of every American Jew.

For Jews, it is no exaggeration to say that access to abortion services isn’t just tolerated, it is a religious requirement, and has been for thousands of years.

The Torah couldn’t be more explicit: A fetus is not the same as a human life.

The Talmud, a central religious text for Jews written over 1,400 years ago, makes this even clearer by stating that “a fetus is considered a part of the pregnant person’s body, equivalent to their thigh.”

This is what rabbis mean when we say that “access to abortion is a religious requirement for Jews.”

Adolf Hitler would have found common ground in this philosophy.

The Talmud is as medically correct as the Koran.

The Hebrew Bible, however, is the bedrock source of prolife instruction.

Rabbinic Judaism doesn’t seem to like the Hebrew Bible, though.

Sorry to say, but the Jewish position on this is scientific BS.

Yet this goober can't cite chapter or verse.

"and the rights of Americans everywhere will depend on whether they happen to live in a blue state or in a red state."

Already a thing with gun rights though.

Beyond being a violation of the human rights of pregnant people

What about the rights of the human inside the pregnant person? The right to life?

The Talmud huh? I wonder what Moses and the Prophets say about that? Probably to take another lap around Mt. Sinai.

For the Catholics here, in case anyone is wondering:

the official Catechism of the Catholic Church states: ‘‘Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception.... Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable’’ (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #2270-2271).

As you can see, the statement is followed by a period.

I understand that the Torah is not chapter and verse but the Tora has been put into chapter and verse. Why are not chapter and verse cited in this article so the lame laymen might understand the positional context with his own reference material.

The fact that I’m even voice texting this into a smartphone indicates that I do have computer access but still... chapter and verse would be nice. That way I could cross-reference it with the Strong’s Concordance.

How many pregnant women think a punch in the uterus is equivalent to a punch in the thigh? I suspect zero.

Why wouldn't they? They're their biggest religious demographic. The Jewish electorate votes more for Democrats than atheists and Muslims.
