The machete-wielding man who sliced a cop’s hand in Coney Island on Thursday – and was then shot in the leg by the officer – has been slapped with multiple charges while recovering in the hospital, authorities say.
Richard Paris, 57, was holding the 16-inch weapon and a smaller blade when three cops began struggling with him on West 8th Street in the Brooklyn beach town around 1 p.m., police said.
“It was this intense prolonged struggle that one of the officers was sliced on the hand,” Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell told reporters Thursday. “Fortunately the officer, who was a six-year veteran of the department, is recovering in the hospital.”

Is it me or are fifty and sixtysomethings turning up a lot, crazy and violent in the news?
Since it was a cop that he hurt, they will probably release him without bail.
How long will it be before Eric Adams apologizes for the cop wounding the perp?
I don’t think it is just you; these people are caught in a situation where they had a “beforetimes” standard of living and they can’t meet their financial obligations with “new normal” income. Many of them realize they’ll probably never be financially secure enough to retire, and the McJobs economy has little use for them (though in my experience they have better work ethics and general education that 20-somethings).
The new mayor now has to change the advertisement on his dinner jacket to machete
Once you CHOOSE to Resist Arrest EVERYTHING that follows is on YOU. You'll find Sympathy between "Shit" and "Syphilis" in the Dictionary.
Hey, gun control works. This nutjob didn’t have a gun to injure people, he used a machete to injure people. Eric Adams should be so happy a gun want used... 🤓
I hope all cops are now issued tasers as part of their gear.
Shooting a crazy knife-weilding guy might be avoided, or might not depending on the situation. Shooting crazy guy in the leg seems both logical and merciful imo. Kudos, officer.
“...and was then shot in the leg by the officer...”
The officer showed either poor shooting skills...or magnificent restraint.
Silly youngin’s...
I’m glad I made it thru those “wild & crazy” years without doing something silly.
Here is my most efficacious scenario: Bam! Bam! Bam! Drop the knife!
Want should be wasn’t ... Sorry...
“Took my machete to the levee but the levee was dry”
He should have shot him where it counts.
Just to nitpick, the 16” machete appears to be a 10” boning knife.
Tazer are not very reliable.
I doubt that he shot the nut, in the leg, on purpose, unless it was point blank.
Cops, military and anyone else are trained to shoot center of mass.
