As the war between Russia and Ukraine continues, a Russian ship near Hawaii's waters has caught the attention of the U.S. military, reported the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command. While Russia continues to invade Ukraine, Russian state TV has increasingly discussed ideas of the war expanding beyond Ukraine's borders, and on Sunday, authorities announced they were tracking a Russian ship near Hawaii. One U.S. Indo-Pacific Command spokeswoman told Honolulu station KHON2, "U.S. Indo-Pacific Command routinely monitors air and maritime traffic in the Western Pacific to ensure security and stability of the region alongside our Allies and partners." The spokeswoman continued, "As part of our normal daily operations, we closely track all vessels in the Indo-Pacific area of operations through maritime patrol aircraft, surface ships, and joint capabilities...I can tell you we are monitoring a Russian surface vessel operating in international waters in the vicinity of Hawaii." Retired Marine Lieutenant Colonel Hal Kempfer told KHON2 that the Russian ship had caught the military's attention as they continue to monitor the war. "I have no doubt that Indo-PACOM is watching this closely, as are a number of other intelligence organizations trying to figure out exactly what it is," Kempfer said. "They're not just watching the ship they're watching everything might be connected to and getting some real detail on what it's doing, why it might be there, who they're reporting to. All these things go into a fusion process, an analytical process if you will that tells us is this a threat or is it not a threat."

Civilian flagged or military.
Details matter.
This was more than a century before we "annexed" (wink wink) Hawaii from Hawaiians who had lived there for a thousand years before.
"Annexed" meaning, we stole it at USMC gunpoint, due to "Muh Manifest Destiny."
Anybody who wants Russia out of Crimea must lead the charge in giving back Hawaii to the Hawaiians.
At least Russia bought Crimea from the Ottomans, in gold, the way we bought Alaska from the Russians.
Hawaii, OTOH, was just plain outright theft, at gunpoint, and not from savages, but from a civilized people.

Oh, a surface ship. They are probing biden.
Now I get it — we can move ships near them but they can’t move ships near us.
That being said.....they got the best of the “deal”.

Russian Trawlers have patrolled off our waters forever. Any microwave shot that points toward a coastline is going to have a Russian ship with a microwave dish capturing every signal. We spy on them they spy on us. Truly right, nothing to see here.

Well, Russia was also party to an internationally acknowledged treaty following the breakup of the Soviet Union in which it guaranteed territorial soveriegnty to Ukraine within its bounds at the time, in return for Ukraine handing over all nuclear weapons on its soil, that treaty also guaranteed by the US and Great Britain. So they sold it back again. There has been no legitimate transfer of sovereignty since that treaty, to the best of my knowledge.
