In the weeks since a federal judge in Florida struck down the federal mask mandate for planes and other transportation settings, Americans have met the change with a mix of excitement and concern. Some travelers welcomed the news, even cheering on planes when pilots announced the ruling. For others, the prospect of flying with unmasked seatmates has been a source of anxiety.
The Justice Department said it would appeal the decision, but the rule has been dropped for the time being. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention still recommends wearing a mask on flights.
If you are nervous about flying on an aircraft full of bare faces, you can take steps to make the journey less daunting. Below, psychology and etiquette experts offer advice on how to calm your nerves and courteously navigate a maskless flight.
While you might need to travel by plane for weddings or funerals, Thomas Plante, a psychology professor at Santa Clara University, said travelers might consider doing a cost-benefit analysis on whether to fly for pleasure trips. “I think the public really does want to say to themselves, ‘Okay, what am I willing to do and not do?’” he said. “‘What’s worth it and not worth it?’”
Before your trip, make a plan, said Andrea Bonior, a psychologist and Georgetown University faculty member who has contributed to The Washington Post. “I don’t think rehearsing is too much in this situation,” she said. Think about how many masks you will bring and how you will eat and drink if you don’t want to do so on the plane, and build in extra time to further reduce stress.
If wearing a mask makes you feel safer, Plante said, you can wear a quality one, such as an N95 or KN95, regardless of what others choose...

I’d use my mother in laws favorite reply to a-holes...”Buzz Off, Buzzard Breath”
I would say “I cannot sit next to a person wearing a mask. They frighten me.”
Oh STFU, Nathan
It’s time for the maskless to treat the masked as common criminals. They had two years to brow beat the unmasked, now it’s payback time.
Several good ideas on this thread.
How about “How to Tell a ‘Seatmate’ Who Asks You to Mask to F*** Himself” ?
Or, respond like this: “I see you have a mask already, which you believe protects you. If you think you are still unprotected, feel free to wear two of them. See? Same as if I have one and you have one, so it protects YOU while not offending ME.”
Learn “&^%% you” in Portuguese and repeat it a few times.
Just before you land speak English “Great flying with you.”
;-)
If your seatmate asks you to mask, tell them, “I’m sorry, but one of the conditions of my parole is that I can never again wear a mask in public.”
Miss or Sir, I’m not wearing mine so you can add it to yours so you can be double, triple, etc. masked ... sort of like wearing multiple condoms .... oh, the extra protection.
I prefer a simple No Thank You followed by a quiet release of intestinal gas. Yep little kid in me will be LMAO
And that’s how the fight started..
Step One: Buy all the seats on the flight.
Step Two: Place mirrors in all the seats except the one you intend to sit in.
Step Three: Put on your Mask.
Step Four: Board the Aircraft.
Me too internationally. Saw a few masks but people are done with it. My reply will be “No, I don’t want to.”
And when they grimace at the stench of yesterday's burritos and Budweisers, you can say, "Your mask doesn't work so well, does it?"
Carry a laminated card of this....

No can do. As a Marine Vet, I speak fluent Marine. They will get the message loud and clear.
Through my years...after dealing with leftists...realized that ALL of them are neurotic.
