As Coffins Come Home, Russians Confront Toll of Ukraine Invasion
The Wall Street Journal ^ | May 4, 2022 | Evan Gershkovich

There wasn’t much left of Russian army Sgt. Andrei Akhromov’s body when it arrived in a zinc coffin at his hometown, a four-hour drive south of Moscow, relatives said. The 21-year-old died in April near the Ukrainian city of Chernihiv when his tank was hit by enemy fire.

Sgt. Akhromov’s cousin, Sergei Akhromov, said a representative of the regional governor’s office told the family it took the armed forces three weeks to identify what remained of him using DNA analysis. Loved ones didn’t look into the casket before burying him last week, he said.

“I only blame America—not Ukraine, not Russia,” Mr. Akhromov, a 32-year-old parks-and-recreation worker, said. “Biden, or however he is called, allowed for Nazism to flourish in Ukraine, and so Russia had to fight not only to protect its people and borders, but also the Ukrainian people, women, children, elderly.”

More than two months after Russian President Vladimir Putin sent troops into Ukraine, Russians are beginning to confront the toll of the war. Mr. Putin has justified his actions by saying Ukraine, which has a Jewish president, is run by Nazis—a claim for which he hasn’t provided evidence.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said in late March that 1,351 Russian soldiers had died in what it calls a “special military operation.” It hasn’t released any casualty numbers since. Western governments estimate that as many as 15,000 Russians have died—more than the total lost over the course of the Soviet Union’s decadelong war in Afghanistan.

So much bs in this article, it’s hard to know where to start. People need to wake up to reality. Russia is accustomed to losses in war. The true numbers (it ain’t 15K) will come out in due time, but not before we’ve spent our national treasury throwing money at a losing cause. As many have said, we have our own border to protect.

Take it easy, he’s in grief, and Russia’s propaganda against America is just as bad as ours is against Russia.

Trump joins Biden in calling Russia’s war on Ukraine ‘genocide’

Trump elaborated on his comments later in the interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity saying,

“This is a genocide that’s taking place.”

I was wondering earlier why the Russian people put up with a steady stream of despots. Now I know, they are incredibly stupid.

"...we have our own border to protect."

That's a lost cause for the next 2½ years.

Russians are far from stupid. This war would have been over with a peace agreement if Biden and the leftists didn’t ramp things up to protect their own filthy payola schemes

Yes, the war would have been quickly over had Ukraine simply surrendered the day the Red Army invaded. What would the peace agreement entailed? Acknowledgment of Russia’s seizure of Crimea, recognition of the two ‘independent regions’, a promise to never join NATO or the EU—anything else? Perhaps reabsorption back into mother Russia?

I don’t disagree with your comments about Biden and the payola. But the Ukraine war is Putin’s fault.

“I was wondering earlier why the Russian people put up with a steady stream of despots. Now I know, they are incredibly stupid.”

The majority only have access to state TV. I’m sure you know people who get their news from CNN. Imagine them, but in Russia.

Also, they aren’t stupid. If they say anything against the war they can go to prison, and they do know that. There are three hundred thousand special troops who are anti-riot police. Their purpose is to maintain order...meaning if anyone steps out of line or says the wrong thing, they don’t get cancelled on the internet, they get their door broken down and a broken bone. If the situation was turned around and somebody shoved a microphone in my face I’d say, “Biden’s doing a fabulous job. I’d let him sniff my scalp right now.” (I’m 68 and bald, but I’d have said the right thing and a thing that makes sure it won’t air but also won’t get me a visit from the FBI.)

“Has Russia announced the casualties from the Moskva yet?”

The Admiralty in St. Petersburg reports that several careers were lost with the Moskva.
