Russian Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar has criticized remarks by his country’s foreign minister, who suggested that some of the worst antisemites were Jewish and that Adolf Hitler had Jewish ancestry.
Lazar’s criticism of Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s remarks Sunday — he called them “shocking” and said he wished Lavrov would apologize — is unusual in Russia, where other clergy have been supportive of the war in Ukraine and where dissent has largely been made illegal.
Widely viewed as having close ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Lazar and the organization he leads, the Chabad Lubavitch-affiliated Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia, have expressed displeasure with the war while refraining from criticizing the Putin regime directly over it.
“I do not consider myself entitled to give advice to the head of Russian diplomacy — but it would be nice if he apologized to the Jews and simply admitted that he was mistaken,” Lazar wrote in a reply to a request for comment by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.

Yep. Russia has a history of violent anti-Jewish pogroms. So an unfortunate remark there would mean more than one in, say, Ireland. I’m sure this Russian rabbi knows that. So it’s better to nip this problem in the bud than let it fester, and maybe explode.

Then, according to your reasoning, half the industrial world has entered the war on one side or the other, because about half the industrial world is sending some kind of aid or assistance to one side or the other. So, are you suggesting, “Let the Games begin?”
I am suggesting many nations, the same stringent lockdown nations, have de facto entered the war. I’m saying we should mind our business.
Let the Europeans deal with European problems.

He was asked for a comment and gave a very reasonable answer.
If only that were true. Russia is calling Israel precisely because they didn't stay on the sidelines, and there is a lot of ugly factual history to support Lavrov's assertions.
Why does anyone even give a damn about apologies?
In the political arena apologies aren’t worth spit. It’s all theater.
The Russians are working themselves up into having an old fashioned pogrom.
These Soviet tools follow the same pattern over and over:
1. Start spewing outlandish propaganda against people.
2. Make some irrational demands of those people.
3. Blame those people when they don’t cave to the demands.
4. Start killing them while simultaneously claiming self defense and victimhood.
Pick another target and then do the same thing.
The Assyrians took the 10-northern tribes of Israel into captivity, and disperse throughout the world. One hundred fifty years later, the Babylonians did the same for the Tribes of Judah and Benjamin. When these folks got to Babylon, they pretty much took over the government. Why would anyone expect that the same thing didn’t happen with the Lost 10 tribes?
My working theory is that the tribe of Dan went east and became the moving force among the Han Chinese. The Tribe of Dan is not mentioned among the 144,000 because the anti-Christ will come out of it. Xi is an excellent candidate for the position.
It IS true. Israel has pissed Biden and Blinken off by staying out of it. In fact NeverTrump Republican Rep. Adam Kingizer actually threatened to withhold aid from Israel if they didn't start helping Ukraine with weapons systems.
