45% of LGBTQ youth seriously considered suicide in the past year, Trevor Project survey finds

Forty-five percent of young LGBTQ people seriously considered attempting suicide in 2021, according to a survey published Wednesday by the LGBTQ mental health nonprofit the Trevor Project. It's the third consecutive year that rates of suicidal ideation have increased among LGBTQ youth, the organization said.

"We must recognize that LGBTQ young people face stressors simply for being who they are that their peers never have to worry about," CEO and executive director of the Trevor Project Amit Paley said in a statement.

For the nonprofit's fourth edition of its National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health, researchers surveyed nearly 34,000 LGBTQ people between the ages of 13 and 24 in the U.S. between September 20 and December 31, 2021. With 45% of respondents being people of color and 48% being transgender or nonbinary, the annual survey is "one of the most diverse surveys of LGBTQ youth ever conducted," according to the Trevor Project.

Researchers found that 53% of those who seriously considered suicide in the past year were transgender and nonbinary youth, and that 33% were cisgender young people. Fourteen percent of LGBTQ youth attempted suicide last year, including nearly one in five transgender and nonbinary youth, as well as nearly one in 10 cisgender youth.

LGBTQ youth of color considered and attempted suicide at higher rates than their White counterparts, with the highest percentages among Native American, Black and Middle Eastern or North African persons, according to the survey. By sexual orientation, pansexual young people of color, queer and questioning youth reported higher rates of considered and attempted suicide. Transgender males, nonbinary or genderqueer and transgender females considered and attempted suicide at the highest rates.

Actually, a lot of these messed up people were once normal individuals who got sucked up in the ongoing gay is great recruiting hysteria and who are now realizing how badly they have screwed up their lives.

Before starting college in the mid-70's, I think I knew of only one gay guy at high school. They were seldom seen on TV, and if they were, they were usually comic relief.

When I started at college in the theater department (yes, waste of time major), there were gays coming out of the woodwork. Those of us who were straight had to go through all the usual steps to date girls - take them out, buy them things, etc. The gay guys were more like, "come over to our place and we'll have sex". Young guys who were inexperienced were being introduced to guilt-free/no requirements instant sex and many of them jumped into it. There was no "gay dating" or talk of "gay marriage". It was just "let's do it".

Maybe, just maybe, this happens when kids have been bombarded by teachers, media, entertainment and their Democrat parents with falsehoods that their hormone filled bodies really do not agree. That creates a cognitive dissonance that their immature minds just can’t rectify.

Previous studies identified the attempted suicide rate of transgender as 41%. (For reference, the rate in the general population is 4 per 100,000 or .004%)

The medical profession should stop pretending that these unfortunate people are not inherently mentally ill.

Look at the line for gay/lesbian and see that by these measurements, the POPULATION percentage is 3%. The sub-population of 'LGBTQ Youth' (13-24) is obviously smaller than that and and this 'survey' is done by a self-affirmed LGBTQ organization.

While ANY YOUTH SUICIDE is an action to be decried and fought, the obvious question is what is the suicide 'ideation' (formation of ideas / concepts) in the overall population of the range given? From the CDC we have this "... during 2019, a total of 18.8% of students reported having seriously considered suicide ..." while this survey is contemporary AFTER COVID, closed schools and lockdowns. This is a KNOWN causative of youth depression & dissociative behaviors that are co-factors of suicidal thoughts!

ok so what is the solution?

The solution is make it clear that same sex attraction is a mental disorder that can be treated, and to stop pretending that performing deviant sexual acts have no major health risk factors associated with them. Sex ed in schools should happen in high school biology class and should include pathological photos of what various STDs do to the human body.

This would solve about 90% of the problem.

Good point. Before trans procedures, there needs to be an unbiased diagnosis of the mental state of the individual.

Ethical plastic surgeons already do this with patients before surgery, because they have long known that assumptions that surgery will solve personal, relationship and social problems are almost never correct.

It is worse in those who think that changing their genitalia will change things outside of their body. Homosexuals also tend to misassign unrelated problems to their sexuality.
