Elon, you have no idea what the hell you’re talking about
Techcrunch ^ | April 26, 2022 | Devin Coldewey

Posted on 05/03/2022 12:32:51 PM PDT by hadit2here

Elon Musk is embarrassing himself on the global stage again by proudly bruiting a grade-school level of familiarity with the immensely complex concepts of free speech, censorship, rights and privileges of individuals and government authorities. The fact that this aggressively ignorant person is likely to take over one of the largest communication platforms on Earth should scare the shit out of you.

Here is what the richest man in the world said earlier today, on the platform he intends to acquire:

By ‘free speech,’ I simply mean that which matches the law. I am against censorship that goes far beyond the law. If people want less free speech, they will ask government to pass laws to that effect. Therefore, going beyond the law is contrary to the will of the people.

Elon’s got one thing going for him. He has demonstrated an apparently innate facility to pack more willful and privileged ignorance into a single sentence than almost anyone on the planet.

These statements are so fundamentally wrong — factually, ethically, practically, and in every other way, that I hardly know where to begin.

For one thing, he might want to look at the most elementary descriptions of what constitutes free speech and censorship. Censorship is when state authorities limit the speech of the people under their power. Free speech is the guarantee that no action defined as speech is illegal outside a few harmful examples, like harassment, hate speech and other special cases (under constant negotiation) that we as a society have decided constitute or exacerbate crimes.

“ outside a few harmful examples, like… hate speech”

So “hate speech” now constitutes harm? So much so that it can be banned?

Is the phrase “the royal brute of Great Britain” hate speech? Should Thomas Paine have been jailed?

There is no useable definition of “hate speech” which does not transfer power from the people to the state. Anyone who believes that there is shouldn’t be writing about politics.

Free speech is only “complicated” if your goal is to silence speech you do not like.

“Considering how totally leftist MSNBC.com, NBC New and the others are, a decently knowledgeable person would definitely consider his bruiting to be at best, leftist opinion, lack of facts, and utterly ignorable and forgettable.”

I once worked in a building that housed the MSNBC offices, I had a nice corner office at the far end of left wing.

MSNBC had their office and production in the Right wing, but they were sequestered. They had their own private keycard elevator and did not even realize they only took up about 1/2 the right wing.

I laughed every day as I watched the MSNBC employees turn right when they entered the building to go to work.

Let’s say censorship is strictly an act of a government agency. But we know that certain administrations leverage the use of a third party to circumvent certain little pesky Constitutional rights. Like the CIA not allowed to spy domestically so they enter a quid pro quo with the Brits who certainly have no such restriction when it comes to the good old US of A. Or Saint Fauci outsourcing gain-of-function offshore. I do believe both are illegal when done by a government actor.

Semimojo, Observator, Here is another Freeper giving free lessons in rationality and common sense.

And he continues.

Now, Devin, if you are saying your outlet has control of its platform and does not need to indulge any old point of view (setting aside Section 230), ok. But the moment you do so at the behest of the Government, you become an agent of said Government and the Constitutional restrictions apply. I believe “collusion” is a word that should sound familiar to you. Does Journolist ring a bell? So don’t collude, m’kay?

Free speech is not a complicated concept. You’re free to say what you think or you’re not. Period.

Musk did NOT build an electric car company from scratch. He is a venture capitalist that invested in Tesla, a company that was founded by two other guys in California.

It's more complex than that.:

“Ian Wright was the third employee, joining a few months later.[2] The three went looking for venture capital (VC) funding in January 2004[2] and connected with Elon Musk, who contributed US$6.5 million of the initial (Series A) US$7.5 million[9] round of investment in February 2004 and became chairman of the board of directors.[2] Musk then appointed Eberhard as the CEO.[10] J.B. Straubel joined in May 2004[2] as the fifth employee.[11] A lawsuit settlement agreed to by Eberhard and Tesla in September 2009 allows all five (Eberhard, Tarpenning, Wright, Musk and Straubel) to call themselves co-founders.[12]

Musk took an active role within the company and oversaw Roadster product design at a detailed level, but was not deeply involved in day-to-day business operations.[13] Eberhard acknowledged that Musk was the person who insisted from the beginning on a carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer body and that Musk led design of components ranging from the power electronics module to the headlamps and other styling.[14] Musk received the Global Green 2006 product design award for his design of the Tesla Roadster, presented by Mikhail Gorbachev,[15] and he also received the 2007 Index Design award for his design of the Tesla Roadster."[16]

Control Freaks. Allow me to translate for you.

“Hate Speech” = Anything We Don’t Like

Leftist authoritarian control of the Narrative is critical, because they don’t argue (in the formal sense) based on facts, logic, or reason. Keep in mind, there are 2 ways, and only 2 ways, to get someone to do something.

You can try to persuade them. Or you can force them. What they cannot abide is people thinking for themselves, coming to their own conclusions. Restricting information is part of it. Making decisions can be difficult, even with complete information. They achieve their goals by cultivating a dependent, fearful, neurotic class of “ignorant” people - the gaslighting is particularly effective because control of the media means they can really mess with people’s noodle, and boy howdy, do they ever.

Recall the popularity of Rush Limbaugh. Here’s one guy who had an AM radio show, which became popular in part because he was practically the only outlet pointing out the obvious horse$hit the democrats were ladling out every day. He was just saying what everyone was saying, but had no voice in the public sphere. AM Radio! The leftists went apoplectic. Here they virtually controlled 99% of the airwaves on Television, print media, and the rest of it. One guy on a moribund outdated medium, relegated to saturday morning swaps and gardening programs, and a few baseball games.

And they couldn’t deal with that. Recall they had Congress involved trying to ban him. They even blamed him for the Oklahoma City terrorist bombing if I recall correctly.
