It was in the middle of a severe storm at the time. The high winds messed up their radar so they never saw the missiles coming.

How do you know what Putin thinks or wants?

oh, that's easy ... just look at his actions

"actions reveal a person's true self" (>Sherlock Holmes) ... any cop knows that ...

“Biden and his handlers are thinking that this is a golden opportunity to take Russia out completely”

Bush and Cheney used the aftermath of 9/11 to rally public support for taking out Sadaam Hussain. There were unforeseen consequences and the goal of replacing Hussein’s dictatorship with a democratic government failed. Is the US safer today?

The loss of stability, of perceived stability too, is a big price to pay, so there must be a valuable gain from it.

There’s no reason (in Moscow) to remove Putin, except to end the war. So if he goes away, it’s near certain the war goes away.

Something fishy is going on. The Moskva should have been able to defend itself from a Ukrainian missile attack.

Maybe just classic overconfidence. As with US complacency up to December 7, 1941. "Those pissants wouldn't dare," is the general assumption. Although I grant you, after a month of hot war, they should smell the coffee burning.

sailing a constant pattern

Maybe they had the firing solutions worked out from that location. If so that means the Russian Navy is poorly equipped or extremely lazy.

FWIW George Webb posits that it was not a Neptune but actually a Harpoon, already deployed over there despite claims to the contrary, that the US/NATO crowd used to take the ship down (not the Ukraine military).

Putin’s pre-invasion speech was remarkably cogent and detailed.

You are probably not used to hearing politicians tell the truth - or you didn’t hear the speech and are relying on US media to tell you what he said.

There are no effective escort vessels in the Black Sea Fleet. None of them have the radars or missiles to be effective vs sea
-skimming missiles. Even the Moskva was marginal at antimissile defense. Its S300 system was useless at over-the-horizon work without look down radar from an airborne platform. Its short range SAM system was obsolete.

I read that too. It was not only the strong winds and rain, but also the high swells which affected the ship’s radar and kept it from spotting the sea-skimming missiles.

So you take out Putin—will that end the war? Maybe not—

If WE or Ukraine take out Putin it won’t end the war. If the Russians themselves take out Putin it probably would lead to peace. Truthfully, I don’t think Putin is going anywhere unless he is terminally ill. He has the support of the Kremlin, and they encouraged this invasion.

It’s looking more and more like a big summer offensive is coming up. The Russians loose the initiative here, then expect a very long bloody conflict.

The Russians can forget an amphibious operation against Odessa. Drones are now patrolling 20 miles off shore looking for targets. The drones are the new top secret weapons against Russia.

If nuclear war comes, it won’t be 1 city. Over 2000 warheads are targeted for the U.S.. Russia has over 7,000.

No. The Neptune is a version of a Russian missile which is a copy of the US Harpoon which itself was designed to take out this exact class of Russian ship. The ship following the same course it has been following for days without variation, likely had, at best, 30 seconds to take action against the sea-skimming missiles, missiles which the Russians apparently did not know existed.

Slava class ships’ best radar only has 180 degree focus - so a distraction in front to focus on, leaves the ships vulnerable midships to stern.

BS. That the US has had Neptune misiles has been no secret. And they are a copy of a Russian copy of the US Harpoon.
