The Interior Department said in a news release that it will make available 144,000 acres, an 80% reduction from the acreage originally nominated. It will also begin charging companies royalties of 18.75%, up from 12.5%.
The move brings the administration into compliance with a court order but comes as President Joe Biden has sought to encourage domestic production of oil and gas to tame soaring energy prices, especially gas prices above $4 a gallon, that have cut into support for his party before the'Midterm Elections'.
The Interior Department's announcement Friday said the BLM will issue final environmental assessments and sale notices for lease sales Monday.

They will only drill with profits….they used debt and then the price of oil tanked…they will slowly increase production …..look for price jump in gas…the driving season starts soon…plus summer blending of gasoline
Every day I have the absolute sense that we no longer have Americans running this country....painfully so.
The leases are mostly on land that has produced dry holes. If he really wanted to do something, he’d reverse his Executive Order on the XL Pipeline and oil leases. He could also have a massive impact if he did away with the quagmire of letting oil companies have permits to drill.
None of that’s going to happen because Obama is actually running things and he hates America.
Leasing is one thing. Permitting.........
