On Monday, news broke that Elon Musk, the world's richest man, in one fell swoop also became the single largest stakeholder in Twitter, for he now owns 9.2% of its shares. The big question now is whether he intends to use his position to push for change in a platform that has become a toxic echo chamber for "woke" ideas and cancel culture, even as it relentlessly silences opposing views.
If I had to describe Musk, I'd call him an eccentric libertarian who is, nevertheless, just a little suspect in that role, given his commitment to alternative energy and climate change principles. He's also an outspoken visionary and genius.
Perhaps most importantly, unlike so many other billionaires whom the mob can still silence, Musk speaks his mind. He outraged the woke mob when he supported hydroxychloroquine treatments for COVID (almost certainly helpful), stated that children are not vulnerable to COVID (true), was suspicious of government COVID death statistics (which the CDC has since revised), and criticized lockdowns (which the government concedes made no difference). He's also criticized the push in Western countries to lower the birth rate below replacement level; attacked public transportation; and, most recently, when Biden's policies drove up fuel prices, called for more drilling.
Like President Trump, Musk is a billionaire who's enjoyed using Twitter as a platform for his opinions. That's why it was stunning when, a week ago, Musk made it clear that he believes that Twitter, as the modern town square, rather than shutting down free speech, must be a free speech platform — or be overtaken by competing technology:
To show that the question in the poll should be taken seriously, Musk added, "The consequences of this poll will be important. Please vote carefully."

Hopefully he does not find out how hard the swamp will work against you, as it did against Trump. There is an ingrained culture at Twitter that is going to be very hard to change.
As a hardcore pessimist, I refuse to underestimate Elon Musk, and I’m pulling for him.
Agreed but may be easier to get rid of private industry people than those who are elected or receive a government check.
Musk’s latest tweet is a poll on whether users would like to have an edit button on their tweets.
Twitter is the leftists temple. It’s more than time for the walls to come crashing down.
“Will Elon Musk erase Twitter’s censorious ideological slant? There’s certainly a lot of excitement about his becoming Twitter’s single biggest stakeholder.”
well one thing is for sure: 9.1% ownership pretty much guarantees twatter can’t ban musk ... bet they’re already busy adding an “except musk” line to their censorship algorithms ...
Musk probably has more money than the swamp LOL.
RE: Musk probably has more money than the swamp LOL.
Musk is reportedly worth $250 Billion, the richest man in the world. I wonder how many percent of that is liquid...
Hopefully he does not find out how hard the swamp will work against you,

Already has - the FAA and EPA are preventing permits for his SpaceX Texas launch sites - SpaceX finances depend on rapid prototyping which those agencies are doing their best to halt; their efforts are focused on killing SpaceX financially, so NASA’s Artemis boondoggle and politically-connected Blue Origin can prosper at tax payer expense.
The problem with censorship on social media platforms isn’t just with the platform management. Some of it comes from threats of government regulations to impose restrictions on these platforms.
If Elon, being the free speech advocate that he claims to be, manages to take controlling interest in Twitter it will be interesting to see how he deals with these government entities, foreign and domestic.
Free speech is hate speech for many in twitter.
Think about that.
Don’t forget that he’s an African-American. Hard to oppose him if he learns to play that card.
The bottom line is that (other than ‘bots, to some extent),
“censorship is people”. Intolerant, arrogant, ideological, and tyrannical.
For him to advocate free speech means such people are his enemies, and will seek to undermine him in every way. They will always deny what they are, and will seek to hide in the woodwork if they can.
So before he makes any speeches advocating change, he must have a list of who these people are, from rank and file to board of directors. Then his new policies must clarify several “death penalties”, actions that will terminate employment.
1) Speaking out of turn. That is, “whistle-blowing” to the media, instead of going through the chain and public relations.
2) Political oppression of other employees. Either outright or forced advocacy.
3) Use of business resources for social advocacy or opposition.
“Don’t forget that he’s an African-American. “
Hilariously true.
Did I hear correctly that he’s joined their Board of Directors already?
Yes, he is now on the Board of Directors.
Good. Now he can find replacements for top management and vote out the awful ones.
I hope he open sources the algorithms and gets a look at the source code/data that was used to silence the Right. The “trending” manipulation was egregious.
Why would she have to describe him?
