Lithuania ceasing all Russian gas imports for domestic needs (first European country)
Reuters ^ | 02-APR-2022 | Reuters

Lithuania will no longer import Russian gas to meet its domestic needs, becoming the first country in Europe to have secured its independence from Russian supplies, the country's energy ministry said on Saturday.

All natural gas for Lithuanian domestic consumption will be imported via the liquified natural gas (LNG) import terminal in the port of Klaipeda, the ministry said in a statement.

"From this month on - no more Russian gas in Lithuania," Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda tweeted on Saturday, saying the country is breaking "energy ties with the aggressor".

3 Baltic states ‘togther’ - population of about 6 million - and ‘together’ about the size of Missouri.

Then you Putinists shouldn't be so butt hurt about them refusing to buy your gas.

Putin can sell to the Chinese! Oh, wait, the're already having to sell at a massive discount to the ChiComs, huh. :(

“anti-tank ordinance floating around Europe”

Muslim fighters on the Ukrainian side. Muslim fighters on the Russian side. Lots of loose ordnance lying about. What could possibly go wrong?

Countries are becoming aware that being dependent on other countries for the basic is not wise.

Importing luxuries is fine. But you should be able to produce your own basics.

Finally a country taking real action. Providing material support to an enemy is treason.

If the US government wants people to “fall in line” for this war, then the woke corporations and politicians need to put their pet-projects on-hold and do what is best for the country.

Incorrect regarding gas and electricity. Lithuania actually has excess gas import capacity (mostly from Norway and [yes currently] the US.) Electricity mostly comes from Sweden and Poland - some still comes from Russia. (Work in progress - different systems, so, not easy.)

Oil has been switched to Saudi Arabia.

Lithuania once had a lot of nuke generation capacity, but, it was from a 2 unit old Chernobyl type plant, and was shut down years ago because of the obvious safety concerns.

Of note, Lithuania has substantial wind power generation AND pumped hydroelectric storage capacity.

So you would support importing Iranian oil to the USA? How about Venezuelan?

No can do, it will be years before new required piplines will be built. Plus China just canceled a 500 billion investment deal in that space so maybe never.

I wouldn't want to be living anywhere near one of the supply waterways...

Because...?

I guess that if you're an oldster like me, you still can't get those images of those poor oil LNG-covered seagulls getting their heads swabbed by environmental activists back in the 1970s.

Man, those big oil LNG spills were terrible, weren't they? The beaches would be covered with miles of ugly, thick, black oil LNG for months, right?

You might want to investigate the consequences of a violent breach of an LNG containment vessel.

You might SMELL the incinerated seagulls, but you certainly wouldn't have to clean them.

I have attempted to locate some statistics on oil spills vs. LNG spills.

https://www.itopf.org/knowledge-resources/data-statistics/statistics/?msclkid=a47c0e8db32311ec9f30f3d8bd7a8e3d

https://www.laohamutuk.org/Oil/LNG/app4.htm?msclkid=ba59fb3ab32311ecbf0027c08e468e9cIt's difficult (for me) to make a comparison, but it seems that LNG is far safer. (But that might just be a statistical distortion because there is more oil shipped than LNG).

Yes - But I want concrete figures on the actual number of large-scale accidents, not descriptions of what could happen.

I think that plain commonsense tells us that the spillage of something which will rapidly evaporate is less devastating than the spillage of something that will persist, on site, for years, maybe decades.

So true, and now more than ever. Despite all the Tranny-Trans-Gay crap in the US. We can still do this. We have men-producers, living in the real world men who can do this, and instruct the young generations.

“3 Baltic states ‘togther’ - population of about 6 million - and ‘together’ about the size of Missouri.”

Thanks for doing the math, I knew it was a low number. They represent a bit over 1% of Europe’s population. Heck, with a big bunch of money, we could get 1% of our population completely off the carbon-based grid with solar/wind/battery farms (several Trillion dollars for 1% of our population, the cost of one of Biden’s many ‘stimulus’ bills). The problem is the next 99%...or even the next 9%.

“Putin can sell to the Chinese!”

Actually Japan told the West to STUFF IT and is continuing with their LNG project with Russia, as Japan puts their interests before those of the Azov Brigade.

First, Japan is Pro-NATO, has joined in on the sanctions against Russia. There are even Japanese volunteers fighting in Ukraine helping to kill Russians. That's hardly a "told the West to stuff it" in your fantasy. We will see if Japan doesn't decide to sacrifice the LNG too once the piles of dead Ukrainian civilians, the mass graves on satellite that the Russkies were digging in Buchal as recently as a couple of days ago, and the evidence of torture and rape from Ukrainian witnesses hits the global media. None of Russia's usual bullshit blaming Ukrainians for this is going to work. That's what happens when you have Russian conscripts who spend most of their time torturing and raping the shit out of each other even during peace times. They get to another country and start torturing and raping the civilians.

I have a feeling a lot of countries are going to sacrifice a lot more to punish Russia for these crimes.

Maybe you can order some Russkie gas? Maybe order some Russkie parts to run your mobility chair? Anything to help Putin in his time of need!
