ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis mayor has signed a bill allowing taxpayers to voluntarily donate to a slavery reparations fund.
Tishaura Jones, the city’s first Black female mayor, described the move in a statement Friday as an effort to “reverse generational wrongs,” the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
The bill, passed last month by the Board of Aldermen, will allow residents and companies to contribute to the fund by adding donations to yearly property tax bills or to the joint water and refuse collection bills issued quarterly.
When the measure was considered by an aldermanic committee, members expressed concern about the bill’s lack of detail on how the money would be disbursed.
The statement from the mayor’s office said community stakeholders and academics would work together to develop a plan. It also described the bill as a “first step.”
Mayoral spokesman Nick Dunne didn’t say what further reparations ideas might be looked at here, saying “it’s in the exploratory stages.”

Federal income tax is still voluntary. Courts has created Jurisprudence rulings that made federal income tax in essence law since then

This is a “kinder, gentler” version of last year’s BLM extortion. And we’ve seen what happens to the payoffs when they are “disbursed”. They wind up in the hands of the biggest mouths, never to be seen again.

Global challenges amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic have made Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues even more pressing for policymakers, boards and executives.
To promote alignment among existing ESG frameworks, the World Economic Forum, with Partners including Deloitte, EY, KPMG, and PwC, has drawn upon existing frameworks and identified a set of universal disclosures – the Stakeholder Capitalism Metrics.
During the Sustainable Development Impact Summit 2021, the Forum announced that over 50 companies have begun including the Stakeholder Capitalism ESG reporting metrics in their mainstream materials, including annual reports and sustainability reports.
Friday's announcement marks the largest city-led effort at paying reparations to date, but it isn't the first. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted in March to appoint a 15-member African American Reparations Advisory Committee. That same month, the City Council of Evanston, Illinois, voted to pay $400,000 to eligible Black households, part of a pledge to spend $10 million over the next 10 years. Qualifying households would get $25,000 to use for things like home repair or putting a down payment on property.
Last year, the City Council in Asheville, North Carolina, voted to approve reparations in the form of investments in areas of disparity for Black residents.
This group of mayors, dubbed Mayors Organized for Reparations and Equity (MORE), is led by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock. Their stated goal is for these reparations programs to “serve as high-profile demonstrations for how the country can more quickly move from conversation to action on reparations for Black Americans,” according to the group's website.
“Let me be clear: Cities will never have the funds to pay for reparations on our own,” Garcetti said during a news conference on Friday to announce the group. “When we have the laboratories of cities show that there is much more to embrace than to fear, we know that we can inspire national action as well.”
It's similar to the aim of another group of mayors who have experimented with guaranteed income programs, where a small group of low-income people receive cash payments each month with no restrictions on how they can spend it. The first such program was set up in Stockton, California, by former mayor Michael Tubbs, who is listed as an “emeritus member” of the reparations group.
The other mayors are Jorge Elorza of Providence, Rhode Island; Steve Adler of Austin, Texas; Steve Schewel of Durham, North Carolina: Esther Manheimer of Asheville, North Carolina: Quinton Lucas of Kansas City; Darrell Steinberg of Sacramento, California; Melvin Carter of St. Paul, Minnesota; and Keisha Currin of Tullahassee, Oklahoma.

My “reparations” were paid by two Great-Great Grandfathers who fought for the Union and two Great-Great Uncles who died in Confederate prison camps.

Maybe I’m entitled to reparations for 50 years of reverse discrimination and 50 years of paying taxes to support people on welfare.
How long before city contractors are denied work if their companies don’t “voluntarily donate” to the fund?
