President Joe Biden said Thursday that record gas prices were caused by the pandemic and Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine as he unveiled a two-pronged plan to increase supply and reduce demand.
He announced he would release a million barrels of oil per day from the nation's strategic reserve for the next six months and accelerate the switch to electric vehicle.
But his analysis of the cause of the crisis will attract criticism for opponents who accuse him of shifting the blame for his administration's economic woes.
'The problem we're facing with gas prices has two roots,' Biden told reporters at the White House.
'First, the pandemic. When COVID struck demand for oil plummeted so production slowed down worldwide.
'Because of the strength and the speed of recovery demand for oil shot back up much faster than the supply. That's why the cost of gas began to rise last year.
'The second root is Vladimir Putin.'
At the start of the year the price of a gallon was about about $3.30, he continued, while today it is averaging about $4.22.

Over a $500/mo EV car payment?
Democrats don’t understand shit.
“Just buy an electric car!”
Right, dumbass.
Not everybody can afford to buy an electric car, you senile, creepy, corrupt sack of (bleep).
LOL
$80!! Throw in the six cent savings last July 4 and what we spent on Thanksgiving dinner, that’s some real walkin’ around money!
Since the story is from the DM, it’s all lies. Ask any freeper who supports Russia
That’s one heck of a battery!
How in the hell do you save $80 a month if ya have to buy a car costing tens of thousands?
“I assume a 110 current will not work and it will have to be 220 won’t it???”
I saw a story on Varney’s Fox Business show the other day that answered this very question. A 110 outlet certainly will charge a Tesla, Prius, etc. In 2-3 days!
I’m sure you/we have that kind of time.
From back in the days when your ObamaCare bill would be no more than your cell phone bill?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJIjDsrvkOo
is it a coincidence that they got a guy who looks like this to be the meme?
Is the $80 saving before or after the $600 car payment, increased electric bill and cab fares when the battery runs down. Oh, I’m sure there are other charges I haven’t mentioned.
Elections have consequences.
Stolen elections have dire consequences.
This lying, diaper-wrapped moron would do well just to shut-up and ESAD. However, it Thursday which means it’s puddin’ poop day so he’s gay today!!!
Show us the way joe Biden to live without fossil fuels. Show us the way Joe Biden how you are going to heat and cool the White House and the 2 Biden estates without fossil fuels. Show us the way Joe Biden how to travel without a gas powered or EV vehicle. Show us the way Joe Biden how you will travel in an airplane without using fossil fuels. Show us Joe! If you can’t show us Joe, you are a fraud.
It costs 700 to 800 for your own electric car charger. I know this because the car dealership is pushing electric cars as the ONLY way to go. In fact the salesperson said people with great credit always buy electric. No sale I did not take the bait.
Here in the state of Washington they are proposing a tax of 2.5 cents a mile for EV to make up for the loss of fuel tax revenue.
There aren’t enough electric cars. Car lots are empty.
Absurd as usual by plugs.
Where can you get one for $40,000?
More like starting at $60,000 from what I have seen. $40k is for a glorified golf cart.
I gave the notion limited thought until the best I could find for enough range to make a round trip to the city was closer to $80,000 to $100,000.
Just for starters, for $40,000 you can still buy nearly 10,000 gallons of gasoline. Close to 250,000 miles worth or an incremental 500,000 miles worth compared to the price gasoline was.
You can talk yourself into a friggin’ bentley with the logic of saving money by buying an electric car.
It is stupidity that got us into this mess and it won’t get us out of it. Don’t be stupid.
