Former president Donald Trump’s Truth Social app is seeing a 93% drop in signups and similarly steep decline in traffic after a rocky rollout last month fraught with technical issues and an extensive waiting list for new signups to actually use the service.

After going live on President’s Day, the Twitter-lookalike app saw installs decline by more than 800,000 since its launch week, according to Sensor Tower. Installs on the Apple app store this month have fallen to about 60,000 per week, based on early estimates.

I work in software, don’t give me its the “open source’s/vendors” fault. They chose to use it, and if it had never been used at this scale that should have been noted and part of the evaluation.

You can’t escape incompetence on this, trying to pass the buck is just proving my point. The folks who have been hired to do this are incompetent.

You are going to use a product, any product, commercial or open source, you should be doing an evaluation of its fit for purpose, before you choose it. If they chose a product that couldn’t scale, that’s on the folks who made the decision to use it not doing their due diligence. Or in other words... INCOMPETENCE.

If you know you are going to need to serve a million users, and the vendor/open source product has never been implemented on that scale, that comes out right away, that you will very likely need to rewrite/fix it before a single user is on it. Load Testing can verify at what point the software as it exists blows up... It’s called finding the knee if you wish to use parlance.

None of this clearly was done... you don’t go LIVE and then find out this stuff, at least not if you are a pro.. the excuses you are giving are proving my point, not yours.. the folks hired to execute this are incompetent and out of their depth.

The decision makers had no idea what they are doing (almost certainly) and most likely refused to listen to the engineers who warned them about it as well.

The thing is a good manager doesn’t have to know in precise detail every single thing of what is going on but he must have good people under him, assign tasks and have status meetings and keep track of what is happening. This is where TS has gone astray, Nunes didn’t have to know the business as long as he put the right people in the right places and when something didn’t work out make the responsible changes.

You are right for something with the kind of visibility and scope of this project it is impossible to believe that capacity wasn’t discussed in fine detail at the very beginning of the project. It’s like there is no plan, no path to final victory. Kids are running things. So sad.

Truth Social is not just another online platform. It will revolutionize the entire game. A thing as profound as this requires depth of understanding, not a Millennial-sized reaction spawned by the need for instant gratification.

To say it’s a failure this quickly is something a bit lower than ridiculous.

I am not calling out any one person... I understand an executive can’t know every detail of every item, that’s impossible to do in a large org. However, there is no excuse for the situation...

What is inexcusable, and this one does go all the way up to Nunes level, is the clear and complete lack of communication. You have a waiting list of over half a million, who have been waiting well over a month now, and none of them have heard anything and some of them have watched their number in the queue actually increase.

I know these types of systems aren’t simple, they are complicated and hard... almost anything at scale is. However, the scale of this is something that should have been anticipated from the start, and its clear that just basic fundamental things were not done... and now that its beyond obvious they haven’t been done and the price is being paid for it, they are compounding the problem by not communicating.

Nunes should be communicating to those people waiting, and they are getting nothing.... Even if the communication is we are still working on the problems. The fact no communication at all is coming out of the organization shows just how inept the leadership is.

In a month, whoever is steering this ship, (and frankly I suspect Nunes is just a prop and has no idea how to run anything other than perhaps a farm, He got his masters in agriculture 95, and was elected to office in 2002, and has been in politics ever since. He has absolutely no experience in technology, and I really doubt he’s got any experience building anything from the ground up, technology or otherwise) even if he’s been getting bad information from his lackies, should know its a mess and have started execution of actions to correct the ship, by 5 weeks there should be progress noticeable, and not a single peep from TS on anything.

Understand I am not bashing the engineers, they could be geniuses for all we know, but it’s clear the folks in the seats that make decisions are not competent.

Oh, and for those who are trying to tell me I am not correct, I leave you with this nugget, last mass communication I am aware of from Nunes regarding Truth Social was they would be fully operational by the end of March... which just so happens to be TODAY... and they are not remotely fully operational.

I am as big of a supporter of Trump and America First as anyone, I was one of the earliest supporters of him here on FR, so this you are just a Trump Hater if you say anything negative about Truth Social is nonsense. This has been a fustercluck by any measure, and if it keeps dragging on for months, it will be put in the same category as the Obamacare web site launch.

Why he chose the path he took on this adventure is a mystery. With all that is a stake it’s a real head scratcher.

I think the whole platform should be taken down and re-engineered properly. Set a realistic start date and put the proper people in the correct positions. Let’s take our punches now and do this right. The way it’s going it will be a year before it’s working if even that quickly.

I can understand the desire and actually there is a great need for a social network that isn’t tied to the existing big tech oligarchy and control... I don’t think it’s a bad idea, I do think it’s been very poorly executed.

Should have been done more like gmail originally launched, soft rollout to select folks, feedback, improve, invite a few more in... etc... Not have everyone sign up, and blowing up and then just leaving folks who signed up unable to log in and in limbo.

I think there is a good general opportunity here, but so far the execution has been hugely sub par.... The one thing they have going for them, frankly IS Trump... a lot of folks will overlook a lot of negativity for him... if they weren’t tied to him they’d already be written off.

If they can get it working over the summer so that in late summer/early fall when the election cycle is dominating the news, and Trump can say come sign up, and give his daily messages through it, they will probably be okay... but if they don’t get this resolved soon, and miss the fall window, they are pretty much SOL until election season 2024 in terms of really driving membership..

Devin always said they were planning a desktop version and a WEB APP for non-iOS devices (Android). Apparently, it was planned sooner but got delayed, so I’m guessing within days or a week. We’ll find out by tomorrow hopefully.

He said that in the future, if Google plays nice, the will provide a native app through Google Play.
