The Ukrainian forces have reportedly recaptured key strategic locations of Trostyanets in Sumy Oblast, Poltavka and Malynivka villages in Zaporizhzhia Oblast from the invading Russian forces.

The Ukrainian forces launched successful counter-offensives against the invading Russian troops in Zaporizhzhia Oblast in Southeast Ukraine.

The Ukrainian forces successfully ousted the Russian forces from the Poltavka and Malynivka villages in Zaporizhzhia Oblast after intense fighting.

On the other hand, Trostyanets – a city in Sumy Oblast in northeast Ukraine was also liberated by Ukrainian forces.

The city (Trostyanets), located in the northern Sumy Oblast, was captured by Russian forces on March 1. Trostyanets returned under the Ukrainian flag on March 26,” a report claimed.

Now that the Ukraine is on the offensive, we’ll see if the Russians learned anything from the enemy about how to be win on defense.

From what that Russian general announced I’m guessing some of this results from Russia redeploying its forces eastward and starting to give up some of their earlier gains.

I think Ukraine is just targeting specific targets. At this point it cannot effectively counter attack across the line

Potemkin village
In politics and economics, a Potemkin village is any construction whose sole purpose is to provide an external façade to a country that is faring poorly, making people believe that the country is faring better. Wikipedia

Looks like General Potemkin is in charge of the “vaunted” Russian army.

Hunter Biden’s laptop reveals a Ukrainian bioweapons operation inside Ukraine, sponsored by Hunter, “the big guy”, and probably Fauci’s NIAID.

I blamed China for the Wuhan lab and for COVID-19, until I learned that Fauci’s NIAID was sponsoring it. I have supported Putin’s world view that there is no such thing as “a homosexual”, and that “transgenders” are a collection of schizophrenics, children of schizophrenics, rapists, and criminals attempting to change identities. With Russia’s attack on Ukraine I believed Russia to be wrong, and Putin to be a war criminal .....until I learned that Hunter, “the big guy”, and probably Fauci’s NIAID were operating another bioweapons program inside Ukraine.

This activity is unacceptable. COVID has killed a million Americans, and millions more worldwide. Russia has a right to defend itself, and Putin has a duty to Russians to eliminate the threat posed by this operation.

My support for Zelensky and Ukraine is officially over. Go Russia!

You well could be right. Hard to know what is going on over there.

A couple of years ago I started watching the German newsreel program from WWII,’ Die Deutche Wokenschau’ on YouTube, many with English subtitles. The programs from ‘40 and ‘41 are, as you might expect, very optimistic. But then when you get to ‘44 and ‘45 the stories are all about ‘Our brave lads are redeploying to stronger defensive positions’, or Goebbels saying, ‘The Allies will find that taking Aachen won’t be like taking Paris’. Today’s announcement, if true puts in mind of this.

I know that some here believe that Russia has pretty much won in this ‘special operation’ but I find it hard to believe that it is all going to plan.

***Yup, that does generate an interesting perspective. Kind of a ‘wait & see’ approach. Don’t you get the ‘40 or ‘41 “optimistic” dogwhistle from the latest Uke announcements at the same time as ‘44 or ‘45 Gird-Loining dogwhistle from the latest Ruke announcements?

I prefer to start my analysis from even further back, which is to see what both sides agree on. That’s why I start with the Budapest AGREEment.

An orderly retreat? Or a rout?

I know, I know: We shouldn't be overly optimistic - but a guy can dream, can't he?

To better understand the context of the 1994 Budapest Agreement maybe you should start your analysis in 1991, when Ukraine declared its independence and the corrupt government immediately began selling off its military hardware to the highest bidder.

I have no idea about which news reports to believe. What does seem clear is that (1) Putin entirely underestimated Ukraine’s will to resist and (2) the will to fight on the part of the Russian troops is approximately zero.

Growing up as part of the post-WWII generation, I recall how we were taught to make fun of Italian military prowess. It wasn’t until I was older that I realized that a disinclination to die for Mussolini was not an indictment of the Italian young men of that era. The tragedy of WWII is that so many young German and Japanese young men were willing to die for evil regimes and wrong causes. If this generation of young Russian soldiers isn’t willing to die for Putin’s soaring ambitions, good for them.

There have been scattered reports of Russian troops killing their officers. I don’t know if they’re true. Even if one credits the reports, these seem to be a very few scattered incidents. But things can get interesting when that starts to happen.

The decadence of Western Civilization--and especially the degeneration of the USA into this decadence--are directly responsible for the war in Ukraine.

And the responsibility for this outrageous war rests entirely upon the shoulders of the Americans who have allowed themselves to succumb to this decadence. They themselves are directly responsible for the war. They bear the guilt for all the horrors, atrocities, and injustice of this appalling war. One only hopes that their accomplishment was unintentional.

This war was predictable, preventable, and inevitable, the obvious consequence of the weakening of America.

This decadence and those who have allowed themselves to succumb to it are responsible for the weakening of the USA to the extent that foreign tyrants and adventurers have been emboldened.

The entire world--and certainly Putin--know that Biden is a fool, unworthy and unable to serve as President of the US, dangerously unfit for that office--and that his handlers, those who placed him in office and control his puppet-strings, are a fifth column in the USA, at best indifferent to the survival of the USA, at worst actively seeking the destruction of the USA.

It is Biden's weakness--and of greater importance, the weakness of the USA in allowing such a man to be placed in the White House--that emboldened Putin--and will embolden other tyrants if the American People do not wake up--and fast!--and correct this sorry situation.

The US Left, the Democrat Party, and the entire "woke" movement are manifestations of the decadence of American society. The signs of it are everywhere.

The only thing that will save America and the American People is a return to ascendency.

That's what Donald Trump offered America.

Putin would never have dared launch this war in Ukraine if Trump were in the White House.

The corrupt establishment and especially the corrupt politicians in Washington are profiting from American decadence. That's why they opposed Trump so viciously.

It is their cash-cow that Trump threatened when he made the vow: "The party's over; I'm going to clean up Washington."

The corrupt--and the magnitude of their corruption--are revealed by the magnitude and intensity of their opposition to Trump and his efforts to "clean up Washington" and restore America to ascendancy.

The American People had better come to their senses fast and repudiate these people and all the decadence they are exploiting--and return America--and themselves!--to ascendancy. Otherwise, the USA is going to fall as surely--and as horrifyingly--as the Roman Empire--and for the same reasons.

Or maybe the definition of “ key strategic locations” differs, based on your objectves

The Russians are not sticking around and occupying towns they do not consider as threats or impediments. They roll through, maybe negotiate with the mayor, then move on. The ukes then move in and declare victory.

If there are any significant military targets in those towns, missiles will deal with them, or the Russians/Chechens will be back once the cauldron around them is closed

The Russians never expected the level of destruction from the anti-tank and manpads sent by the West to Ukraine.

If Ukraine can take out bridges over the Dnieper and the Kerch Strait Bridge, Russia may end up worse off than before it invaded.

Ya think?

Nothing says “ We’re winning” more than Z making a cameo in front of the Oscars and asking for more tanks and missiles to kill Russians
