Trustees of California State University, the largest four-year university system in the nation, agreed Wednesday to permanently drop the SAT and ACT standardized tests in its admissions process, solidifying the state’s national role in eliminating the high-stakes exams because of equity concerns.
The move comes after the University of California system led the way, making the bold decision in 2020 to drop the exams, triggering a national debate over whether the tests unfairly discriminate against disadvantaged students or provide a useful tool to evaluate college applicants.
*** Trustee Yammilette Rodriguez said Tuesday that the decision is personally meaningful to her and that the push for equity will benefit many.
“I am a product of the CSU — a proud product of the CSU — and I would have been a product even sooner if I could have gotten in as a freshman,” Rodriguez said. “Because of the enrollment barriers that I faced, and lack of tools offered to me as a student, I wasn’t equipped to have entry into the CSU, but I know that my story is the same for many all across California.”
Acting CSU Chancellor Steve Relyea agreed, saying the move “aligns with the California State University’s continued efforts to level the playing field and provide greater access to a high-quality college degree for students from all backgrounds.” He added, “We are eliminating our reliance on a high-stress, high-stakes test that has shown negligible benefit and providing our applicants with greater opportunities to demonstrate their drive, talents and potential for college success.”
More than 1,800 colleges and universities — nearly 80% of all four-year U.S. campuses that award bachelor’s degrees — have already dropped standardized testing requirements for admissions. Most campuses, like Cal State’s, made the tests optional during the pandemic.

Elimination of tests has increased admissions of favored races (mostly blacks and latinos) at expense of Asians, who test well.
Hopefully somebody will bring a lawsuit so that SCOTUS can get a shot at whacking this mole.
Most diplomas were aleady useless anyway.
I would recommend to any white applicant to a CA state university that they claim they are Latino—a phony grandparent ethnicity should do the trick.
Create a one page “cover story”.
Let the university prove they are lying.
Let’s not allow the best minds to be admitted. We for sure
don’t want to be the best in the world at anything.
Think China runs things this way?
We are giving ourselves a major disadvantage, our enemies will
never adopt.
This only allows cronyism and corruption in admission.
I used to check “hispanic” for my kids as we can trace ancestry back to Portugal aka hispania, but we would have to go back to the 1400s and that did not turn out so well for fauxcahontas.

You don’t say! Shocking.
The dumbing continues apace.
These are the same idiots who demand competition when it
comes to government contracts.
Well... they do that, but they also demand the competition be
short circuited so minorities get a fair shake. That means
replacing better bids to get racial balance.
Portugal is close enough....
These universities have thrown integrity and morality out the window—let them eat their own garbage.
I wonder if good ol’ market forces will intervene? That is, for someone to graduate from these schools it can be assumed that they have a sub par education. For example, many of the Ivy League schools have, for years, been quietly blacklisted for their bad policies by some corporations.
This is actually going to hurt students, both minorities and not. Some students do better on tests than classwork.
Being excellent won’t get you in. But if you have the right sex, skin color and/or sexual orientation, you’re in.
Gets rid of a lot of white heterosexual males.
Time to forget playing by the rules—many young white folks have already figured it out—lie, lie, lie, lie.
admissions was always corrupt

Markes forces are blocked when almost every university receives government funds.
The U.S university environment is what someone might imagine happens in North Korea.
Yep, those degrees will be worth about as much as a used roll of toilet paper.
