CSU officially drops SAT and ACT admissions requirement in major move
The Los Angeles Times ^ | March 23, 2022 | Colleen Shalby

Trustees of California State University, the largest four-year university system in the nation, agreed Wednesday to permanently drop the SAT and ACT standardized tests in its admissions process, solidifying the state’s national role in eliminating the high-stakes exams because of equity concerns.

The move comes after the University of California system led the way, making the bold decision in 2020 to drop the exams, triggering a national debate over whether the tests unfairly discriminate against disadvantaged students or provide a useful tool to evaluate college applicants.

*** Trustee Yammilette Rodriguez said Tuesday that the decision is personally meaningful to her and that the push for equity will benefit many.

“I am a product of the CSU — a proud product of the CSU — and I would have been a product even sooner if I could have gotten in as a freshman,” Rodriguez said. “Because of the enrollment barriers that I faced, and lack of tools offered to me as a student, I wasn’t equipped to have entry into the CSU, but I know that my story is the same for many all across California.”

Acting CSU Chancellor Steve Relyea agreed, saying the move “aligns with the California State University’s continued efforts to level the playing field and provide greater access to a high-quality college degree for students from all backgrounds.” He added, “We are eliminating our reliance on a high-stress, high-stakes test that has shown negligible benefit and providing our applicants with greater opportunities to demonstrate their drive, talents and potential for college success.”

More than 1,800 colleges and universities — nearly 80% of all four-year U.S. campuses that award bachelor’s degrees — have already dropped standardized testing requirements for admissions. Most campuses, like Cal State’s, made the tests optional during the pandemic.

Pretty smart idea considering Los Angeles Unified School district publicly admits 70% of High School Graduates can NOT read or write above the third grade level and do math above the second grade level.

White liberal women will be impacted most. Women are already 60% of the college population. Men are quietly back on the desired list because of this and because men know they have trades, IT and other paths to succeeding without college. White lib women from wealthy towns, who can pay thousands for tutors and prep for SATs, will compete on GPA with kids from lesser school systems with no standardized test index. Just like with sports, they have screwed themselves with their wokeness. Keep it up ladies.

“Gets rid of a lot of white heterosexual males.”

Fortunately, a mostly white heterosexual male GK is finishing his 3rd year at a Cal state college and is employed, whenever he is on break doing real engineering.

His SAT’s were high enough to be accepted at good colleges across America.

His Dad has the same double engineering degree that his, son is enrolled in. He never had to show anyone that he had his degree until 30+ years after he was graduated.

I never had to show my two degrees, a BS and MBA for any job and even the Navy didn’t require a copy. Since, I did the enlisted route, there was no need.

What is interesting is another son with many jobs, his General Achievement Test/Diploma was often of real value re future employment.

White lib women from wealthy towns, who can pay thousands for tutors and prep for SATs,

Silly man. White lib males from wealthy towns can do the same.

You should try to hide your bias and anger. Save it for Friday night when Free Republic goes all out anger at women.

They can, but they do so less and less, as they represent only 40% of college population. Not in the least bit angry about it. Many men have figured out that they don’t need college and the woke left and gender militancy have made the academy hostile toward men. The college system favors women, majority white and liberal. Getting rid of the SATs disrupts the system and those it favors.

CSUs, with very few exceptions, are mediocre junior colleges. Within a decade they will become glorified high schools.

When the chinese finally walk in and take over this insane asylum, it will be an improvement

These colleges just need to keep the professors employed so students take on huge debt and are stuck for 6 years minimum.

Communists never walk in and make an improvement.

There would be purges and more purges and still more purges.

Groups would be classified not good, and they would get the
last of the food supplies. We could expect to see tens of
millions of people in those groups die.

We would have overlords who despise us, and short of Jesus
Second coming, there would be no rescue from that situation.

I understand your frustration with what is going on. We
share it.

Why not pretend to be a Latino or Latina? It certainly is less egregious than male athletes competing in women’s events by claiming to feel like females?

The dumbing down of entry standards diminishes the value of the product for every student.

UC becomes remedial High School. Their diplomas not worth spit to private enterprise.

“Communists never walk in and make an improvement.”

You’re right about that. But china is further from communism than we are.

The essence of communism is that there is no private property, everything is owned by the state, you cannot own a business or corporation a car or even your own house.

That’s about as far from what China is today as you can imagine. It won’t be long China will have more billionaires than the US and will soon surpass our GDP.

What China is today is a “single party dictatorship, “basically the latest in its long lines of dynasties who has been smart enough to adopt capitalism and let it flourish, which is more than we’re doing in that regard, and the results show it.
