Putin’s Russia looks increasingly desperate as Ukraine war nears stalemate, analysts say

With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine now approaching its fourth week, President Vladimir Putin’s forces have exerted brutal force and destruction on the eastern European nation, forcing people to flee and making millions homeless.

Russia’s economy is now creaking under the immense weight of international sanctions and the costs of war, having largely failed to achieve major military victories in Ukraine. Close watchers of Moscow, and Putin, say there are increasing signs of desperation in Russia’s military campaign and siege tactics.

“I don’t think Russia can win,” Kurt Volker, a former U.S. ambassador to NATO, told CNBC.

Vaccines will save you! That’s why you need boosters indefinitely.

The vaccines don't prevent you from invasion, or from invading others. They merely make the deaths that result feel less severe.

“Putin has had higher approval ratings than any US politician—not even close—for decades.”

Actually that’s disputed. Because in many a Russian poll, sensible people either vote silently for whatever Putin wants whether they agree with it or not, or refuse to turn up to vote.

This was amusingly exposed the other week when a blogger in Russia tried vox popping people in front of the security officers, in Moscow i think.

One person got dragged away for being mildly pacifist. Another was hesitant before she said she was in favor of the military action but got dragged away too. Presumably the goon squad didn’t like the duration of the conversation.

Many people who were asked for an opinion kept the interaction very brief and said they don’t have an opinion.

This translates to political polling. The kidding stat is, what percentage of people ran a mile away in the opposite direction when thry saw the pollsters.

It is true that media relies too much on opinion pieces to gain readers, because you catch more flies with b.s. than honey or vinegar. Thing is, that some of it is not labeled “opinion.” Granted, that is fewer and further between but at least everything isn’t “opinion,” or rather propaganda.

I like Russians, actually. I think that the only winner out of all of this mess is China. You’ve got brother against brother in a grinding war that is likely to result in generational emnity, like Belfast, like Serbia-Croatia. Now being continually at war can buy a leader some time when they don’t have anything to offer people but more and more sacrifice ala North Korea, but the Russian people threw off oppressors before, and I see no reason why they won’t do so again.

I balked at these kinds of analysts saying this sort of thing 2 day into the war...I said something along the lines of “if we are still talking about this 20-30 days into the war, then they may have a point.” well...here we are. Maybe they do.

What a joke. I guess Zelensky will be riding a tank into Red Square any day now. 😉

LOL - look who's talking! The other day you said Trump was seen in Washington in a motorcade and is still the acting President. Your promote a man who says he had an affair with an alien as a credible source of news. You've also said Putin was never going to invade Ukraine. You also said after the invasion started that Zelensky, Trump, and Putin had all planned it. Now you mock Zelensky. You can't keep the crazy consistent from one thready to the next.

Russian war on Ukraine compared to NCAA Basketball Tournament.

The powerful Kentucky Wildcats invade St. Peters, the mini me of basketball with 3,500 students.

Kentucky offense stalls out, runs out of PowerAde, drops the protein bars on the floor...and flails up a 3 pt shot that misses not just the rim, but the floor.

It’s a tough one, Jim, it’s coming down to the wire, as Kentucky puts in the substitue Chechnyans and Syrians.

Kentucky was obviously overranked.

One can despise the media AND notice Russia’s invasion has not gone according to Russia’s plan.

The problem with masks was the theory pushed by the media didn’t match the easily observed facts. The problem with “Russia is Mighty” is that it doesn’t match the easily observed facts. No way Putin expected it to go the way it has.

Maybe Russia should now be concerned about their Southern and Eastern border now. Will the Five Stars of china shine on the Russian Bear and find weakness? China has long wanted to destroy the US and become number one. They might not have a better chance to get rid of both the US and Russia than now, especially with Russia drawing troops from the Chinese border to fight in Ukraine.

Kinda like the Democrats didn’t think through “electing” Brandon with the following disaster in Afghanistan. That definitely put American in a weak position. Just look at the Saudis cutting deals with the ChiComs and not even taking Brandon’s calls.

"Maybe, just maybe Russia is doing it’s darnedest to prevent civilian casualties against an enemy that is using them as human shields"

The nerve of Ukraine. They put old folks in the Old folks home and used them as human shields. Putin showed them though, blew that Old Folks home right up.

Most people need to understand this is just the beginning of combat operations for the Red Army. Russia is far from done. Underestimating an opponent is a deadly mistake.

“Underestimating an opponent is a deadly mistake.”

And I would suggest that the current power structure in Washington will render our armed forces impotent.

Ukraine has civilians located all over their country. What were they thinking?

Putin showed them though, blew that Old Folks home right up.

And that makes sense to you? Or is it more likely propaganda to make you hate Russians? Because it is not Putin on the battle field, they are Russians. Would you blow-up an old folks home because you were ordered to?
