Right or wrong, better or worse, I think that Putin expected Trump to be reelected in 2020. Europe and NATO have proven to be more united and more opposed to the invasion than Putin anticipated. Given Trump's opposition to NATO, his acrimonious relationship with most European leaders, his poor relationship with the Ukraine, and his good relationship with Putin himself I think Putin thought his chances of success would be better under a second Trump administration. Again, it may well be a major miscalculation on Putin's part but I believe that was behind his decision.
Sarah is an ignorant azzhole. Trump said that as a warning not to take Putin lightly. The elitists ignored him and look where we are now.
He called Putin a “genius” only because he thought Putin was using troop deployment at the border as a negotiating tactic and nothing more. Many of us thought the same too. It’s a page out of the Art of The Deal. The actual invasion and shelling of cities that followed was completely unexpected.

When two of my kids challenged me before I voted in 2016, I told them that improved relations with Russia and avoiding war were my top priorities, because deteriorating relations with Russia and war were the two greatest threats to MAGA.
