A senior Pentagon official said on Tuesday that some Russian troops in Ukraine have surrendered or sabotaged their vehicles to avoid fighting, according to The New York Times.
The official said that a large amount of the Russian troops are young, and have not been trained properly in preparation for this all-out invasion of Ukraine.
The Russian troops are reportedly dealing with fuel and food shortages, in addition to low morale.
The official added that there have been cases where Russian troops have punched holes in their vehicles' gas tanks to avoid continue fighting. They didn't clarify how the military has determined these incidents or how many units have acted in similar ways to avoid fighting.
Over the past two days, Russian troops have created a 40-mile convoy of tanks and vehicles around the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv.
The Pentagon official added that the Russian commanders in charge could be "regrouping and rethinking" their strategy.
"They have a lot of power available to them," the Pentagon official said.
About 80% of the nearly 150,000 Russian troops on Ukraine's borders have joined in on the fight, the official added.

So the Pentagram is speaking. Under this administration, I don’t believe a word they say.
Hopium is a helluva drug.
“Surrendering Russians”
“40-mile Convoy around Kiev”
“Ukrainian models volunteering”
I swear there’s more propaganda in this war than there is actual fighting.
May be true may be not. Nothing is trust worthy from these scumbags.
MORE “SUPPLY CHAIN” ISSUES ?????
As far as I can find, there are only two sources of information about this war, and both are completely unreliable: 20 second tic toc/instagram videos of explosions or burned out vehicles, and hyped US MSM commentary.
If true, and that is a YUGE if, that would demonstrate the difference between Quantity and Quality. Mr brother, long retired military, is USMC and always said when you “need something done”, five Marines are more effective and efficient that a great big group of green guys.
He said more, but I’m polite.
This has to be 100% bull crap because the “official” isn’t revealing his or her name and obviously this isn’t the stuff of classified leaks. It is so lame he or she won’t even go on record, or the reporter is just just making this crap up.
He also said some revealing things about the combatants, and said they were not even Marine recruit equivalent.
So Russian junk won’t become Russian junk?
I’ve seen lots of photos and video of undamaged Russian equipment abandoned in towns and villages.
If they’re willing to abandon their equipment before entering a fight, what do you suppose will happen when they begin fighting?
They’re fighting with their feet and forfeiting the match.
Makes total sense. These troops were lied to. Why fight and die for some phycotic thug who will be dead soon anyway, against those you consider friends? It would be like some red state govenor asking his national guard to invade another rex state, Texas troops going to kill in Oklahoma.
I'm done.
If you’re interested in this you basically have to watch RT for the Russian perspective and U.S, BBC ect for the Ukraine/U.S perspective. From that you can make up your mind as to what’s going on. If you’re honest you’ll probably conclude that you just don’t know.
Yeh, the Pentagon. 😆
THE RUSSIAN ARMY MARCHED INTO UKRAINE AND SURRENDERED.
Who believes this crap??!
I'll admit to partaking... I listened to Canadian (state) radio this morning and they discussed the gas tank sabotaging. I wanted to believe, but, man, that would be dangerous there with all those running vehicles in the roadway. And it would really stink and the perps would be in deep trouble.
This is (sadly) a more accurate assessment of events:
This will be yet another ‘surprise failure of the Biden administration.
But, hey, no mean tweets!
In 2014, Russian combat brigades were donating their best men & equipment to form a deployable battalion-size unit. Back then they were “picked men”. Do we suddenly think that they would be doing the opposite now? Especially when you consider that this is an ambitious offensive maneuver that seems a little bit like the march on Baghdad in GWII (minus the sand storms).
