In an ideal world, maybe we could ignore what's happening in Ukraine but we have to see the world as it is, not how we want it to be: Russia is calling and wants its Ukraine back.
I generally appreciate Tucker Carlson, but every time he discusses Ukraine and Russia, I bristle — especially when he contends that America has no interest in Ukraine. I know some of you might agree with Carlson, but you can be a solid conservative who is just as war-weary as the next guy and still see a security interest in Ukraine without being a neocon.
Putin claims to be protecting Russians left in Ukraine after the USSR collapsed, and that Ukraine is rightfully Russian and always has been, even though, historically, there was a Kiev before there was a Moscow. (By the way, it isn't pronounced keev as in keen, but kuh-YEEV in Ukrainian and KEY-yev in Russian.)
Vlad has been a serial breaker of international norms starting as early as 2008, when he invaded Georgia. He annexed Crimea in 2014 and made his first incursion into the Donbas region. Not only has he flagrantly violated Article 2(4) of the U.N. charter by his "use of force against the territorial integrity" of Ukraine, but he has repeatedly violated the promises Russia, the U.S., and the U.K. made in the 1994 Budapest Memorandum: security to Ukraine for giving up its nukes, with assurances that the U.S. would respond if Russia were to renege. All three nations agreed "to respect the independence and sovereignty and the existing borders of Ukraine" and "to refrain from the threat or use of force" against Ukraine.

Yay Tucker! Keep it up. We are sick and tired of wars fought for plutocrats.
Your understanding of geopolitics speaks volumes....
Ukraine isn’t Sweden. Nor does it need to be.
How about if Putin tells you that if your mom would just be a good girl to him, he won’t rape and murder her? Fair deal?
The security interest is that the U.S. needs Ukraine in order to oppose Russia in the area. The reason we must oppose Russia is that they are attacking Ukraine (see above). ... The u.s. has a security interest in Ukraine. The security interest is that the U.S. needs Ukraine in order to oppose Russia in the area.
Lots of talk but very weak case for our “security interest.” Basically, she doesn’t make the case. Sort of like if we don’t stop Putin here he will attack Nato next. Which is just a total implausibility.
And what about what the Ukrainian people want? They wantED protection against a belligerent and expansionist Russia. The people want to join NATO.
We have more than one issue is that really too difficult to understand?
And that’s not Tucker’s real argument. His real argument was that we were going to attack Russia. He said that nonsense again and again every day.
Speaking of our southern border, if Putin is taking out a Western friendly regime in Ukraine, we should take out the Communist regimes in Cuba and Venezuela, to which regimes the Russians have close ties.
Russia already took a bite out of Finland in the form of eastern Karelia. And Putin has constantly stated that he does not consider Ukraine to be an independent state, but to be part of Russia.
Speaking of our southern border, if Putin is taking out a Western friendly regime in Ukraine, we should take out the Communist regimes in Cuba and Venezuela, to which regimes the Russians have close ties.Of all the suggestions I've seen, these are the ones that make the most sense.
And, contrary to Ukraine, a strong argument could be made that these actions would definitely be in our best interests.
Of course they wanted to join NATO, look what Putin is doing to them. But immoral useful fools here decided that Ukraine “belongs” to Russia.
I watch Tucker every single evening. On this issue he was disgraceful and outright lied to push his narrative.
On days when Biden withdrew our embassy, military and citizens and declared we would NOT fight Russia in Ukraine - Tucker would not even mention it and put on one sided guests who straight out said we wanted to “attack Russia”.
They also said sanctions were the same as attacking Russia.
They also said we’d be defeated - just as they had said we wanted to attack IRAN and that Iran would defeat us.
Tucker did his followers and our security a terrible disservice.
People who worry that Germany, once it controls the Sudetenland, will invade western Europe need to have their heads examined....blah, blah, blah.
Cowardice, thy name is conservative.
Will he agree to quit pooping up Cuba?
America is turning into Mexico. If only the dwindling Caucasus Mountain people could stick together, we'd be migrating to the new world Mars right now. Millions of years of the Lord's genetic and cultural R&D is being eaten alive by genetic and cultural evil. We walked upon the Moon, but we couldn't walk from the black rot of vanity and envy.
There was a window of opportunity for the world's white people to tame Earth's evil, but the evil was too weak and dispersed at the time. Instead, we needed a worthy enemy, an actual challenge, like that time we took out the Neanderthals. Hence, white people killing white began, with industrious efficiency and fervor.
Bingo!
“Well, OK, the US doesn’t have a vital security interest in Ukraine.
But a war would be really cool!”
Except of course Putin is just an old line communist and really believes that the world should be ruled from Moscow. He loves communism and the old Skoviet Union.
And the USSR was trying to take over the world
Why should I take our “intelligence” community and Biden’s word for what is in our security interest?
They are themselves inimical to US interests.
