Footage showing a MiG-29 pilot nicknamed 'The Ghost of Kyiv' in action. (Twitter) February 24, 2022 in the stormy first day of the broad-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine became an interesting event. The crew of the Russian An-26 Air Force made a heroic decision to eliminate its plane and die with it in the Voronezh region of Russia, without crossing the border of Ukraine in order not to be involved in the criminal actions of the Kremlin regime. I applaud this decision and urge Russian pilots to act, if not as heroic, then at least sabotage the actions of the Kremlin - lift Russian planes into the air, target planes on the ground without construction away from objects where people can be, and katapu take a flight! So not only will you become heroes, but also will demonstrate that there are worthy officers among the Russians.

Ukrainian border guards defending a Black Sea island defiantly told an invading Russian warship to “go f–k yourself” when asked to surrender and were killed when the warship opened fire.

The 13 guards were posted on the small but strategic Snake Island off Ukraine’s southeastern border when they were approached by two vessels on Thursday, according to Ukrainian media outlets.

The Russians contacted the guards and identified themselves as a “Russian Warship,” demanding that the Ukrainians surrender or else they would open fire according to audio of the exchange.

“This is a Russian warship, I repeat. I suggest you surrender your weapons and capitulate otherwise I will open fire. Do you copy?” The Russians said to the border guards.

“This is it,” one of the Ukrainian guards can be heard saying in the clip.

“Should I tell him to go f–k himself?” he appears to ask a comrade.

All 13 Ukrainian border guards were killed by the Russian warship.

The guard then turns up the volume on his comms and bluntly responds, “Russian warship, go f–k yourself.”

The Russians then reportedly bombarded the 42-acre island with barreled guns from the warship. They then bombed the island with aircraft.

Video apparently taken by one of the guards killed during the attack shows the guard outdoors, wearing a military helmet. He can be heard yelling out and hitting the ground as loud gunfire erupted.

All of the guards were killed, officials said.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday that the 13 border guards will receive a posthumous Hero of Ukraine medal for “heroically” defending the island.

“On our Zmiinyi Island, defending it to the last, all the border guards died heroically,” Zelensky said. “But [they] did not give up.”

“May the memory of those who gave their lives for Ukraine live forever,” he said.

By late Thursday night, Ukraine’s state border service lost all communication with the guards. The island is believed to now be occupied by Russian forces.

Ownership island has been hotly disputed in the past between Ukraine and Romania.

Early on February 23, it seemed like Russian forces would easily overpower the Ukrainian military in their invasion, but just a day later, the tide does appear to be turning. With Ukraine now firmly at war, stories have emerged of their defiant battle and victories against Russians, such as the recapture of the airport in Kyiv from Russia. We’re now getting stories of a hero from the air as well, who has been nicknamed ‘The Ghost of Kyiv’.

As we reported, Russia began its invasion of Ukraine with a series of missile strikes aimed at multiple cities. Shortly before that, it engaged in a disinformation campaign via a cyberattack and even threatened Ukrainian soldiers. It then sent a column of tanks from the Belarusian border, capturing the Chernobyl nuclear plant on its way to Kyiv. While Ukraine has lost several key battles, it certainly isn’t giving up.

There’s now some good news coming from the region, in the form of an ace pilot dubbed ‘The Ghost of Kyiv’. While Russia attempted to bomb Ukraine’s airfields before sending its troops in, it appears some elements survived the onslaught, and are now hitting back hard in what is proving to be a bloody, and expensive war.

Whoever the Ghost of Kyiv is, he is reportedly the first European fighter ace since World War 2.

One website reported that the pilot has downed 2 SU-35 fighters, 1 SU-27, 1 MiG-29, and 2 SU-25 planes, but these figures are yet to be verified. We do know that multiple Russian planes have been downed, as confirmed by Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense. It’s just one of the few positive stories to come out from the invasion, with Ukraine pretty much left to itself to defend its country.

Social media has been quick to praise the pilot, who has even earned a parody Twitter account in his name. Here is just one of the many videos showing the pilot in action. Some claim the footage is old, but it is still him.
