What we can and should do is bar all commerce with Russia or China, including barring all commerce with countries that do business with either country. I suspect that will have more impact and cost less lives than any military action we might take short of nuking either country.
China would collapse if we and our allies ended all commerce with them.

Taiwan was never “unified” with China anymore than Korea was.
Taiwan has its own native non-Chinese indigenous population.
Taiwan aka Formosa “The Beautiful Island” has been interrupted throughout its history by various foreign powers ranging from Portuguese to Chinese to Japanese.

I’ll repeat myself. Our last President knew that both countries had to be dealt with, had to be recognized. At the same time, they didn’t need to be enriched by the US or anyone else.
Take his trip to SKorea, Vietnam, and India. Being honest about cheap labor abroad, he was working deals to move all manufacturing out of China, to those other countries. Flood those countries with cash. Starve China
But…..NOPE.
And let’s not forget about Wall St and it’s cozy ties with China and the Russian oligarchs. Hell, I think one or two of them own sports teams here in the US.

At least I could then drive to Alaska without going through customs.

Taiwan has most of the semiconductor manufacturing in the world. Now, the Free traitors said that is a great thing, but that means if Taiwan falls, the key chip set for ALL of our power, ag, and manufacturing are in enemy hands.
No new cell phones. No new cars. No replacement drives at the power plant. Our entire society and civilization is built on micro chips, and without we will decay quickly.

Ukraine is not a strategic issue for us. Taiwan is.

This has been so obvious. You strike when the US is weak. It has never had a weaker leader than it does now, and the 2022 election would probably put the kibosh on his powers a great deal. So the time to strike is now. And summer is just around the corner. Of course Putin invaded ukraine. Of course China is going to attack taiwan. Elections have consequences. Stolen elections have dire consequences. History repeats...
We disagree about a lot, but this is not one of those times.

Our micro chips come from Taiwan, and they are need for everything else.

The difference between Russia and China taking Ukraine and Taiwan, on the one hand, and North Korea attacking South Korea on the other is that a war on the peninsula runs a large risk for the Nork regime, whereas Russia and China can only gain.

I also have family relation who are very wealthy and highly connected. They said they expect to be invaded and expect to lose. They have been moving their assets out of Taiwan already.

That analogy fits. But unfortunately, we see those that believe Ukraine belongs to Russia and Taiwan belongs to China.
To these revisionists or ignorami, we might as well cede Texas and California to Mexico, and Florida to Spain.
And Pres Donald Trump knew this and wanted to do something about it.
Wanted to make sure that the US wasn’t reliant on any other country.
He’s not there anymore.
As for manufacturing chips. It can be done here.
But…..since you bring those concerns up, and they are concerns, can you tell Free Republic what part of the military you served or currently serve in? What your MOS is/was? Or what branch your serve/served in as an officer? And if you’re out, have you contacted your old unit about getting back in or have you been in contact with a recruiter?
