The same thing is/ was happening with the beef processors. China controlled it all. Thankfully the cattleman all chipped in money, I think around $300million, and are building their own.

But, all we have to do is thank our amazing politicians for selling us out and being such easy and corrupt patsys for the Chinese.

I mean Kemp and the other corrupt state government officials that allowed it all to happen.

"Better get those domestic chip production facilities online ASAP."

I read some weeks back that Intel is building a large chip facility in Texas. I may have the company and State wrong, but it's an American company and I believe it's in construction.

Yep. Haven’t seen proof they can fight [and win] a war in recent times.

Could give a crap about Ukraine. Nothing of strategic value. Only people interested in it are crooks wanting to launder money, like Biden. Taiwan on the other hand, the chip manufacturing is pretty serious.

That analogy fits. But unfortunately, we see those that believe Ukraine belongs to Russia and Taiwan belongs to China.

To these revisionists or ignorami, we might as well cede Texas and California to Mexico, and Florida to Spain.

...with a conscript army...

China doesn't have a conscript army. The army offers good food, a dry place to sleep, new clothes, safety from the police, etc. They choose only the best from those who go to recruiting stations.

The number of men they have compared to the number of jobs is very unbalanced. The military is actually a prestigious employer to those that don't make the mark in school. About 1% of the Chinese make it into college.

The problem is that you can’t have “free trade” without law enforcements, because there is always a bandit out there ready to rob you without paying. And of course the law enforcement will require funding to operate, and will grow in size as the bandits grow in size.

Bottom line is that free trade is an nice idea like communism, but doesn’t work when dealing with actual greedy human beings.
Sure, we can try to lower government interference as much as we can. But committed free trade ideologues need to face facts.

Microchip has a couple of foundries in Arizona and currently building two more. They are the only company getting semiconductors into the distributors at this time.

The United States was just stupid to dissolve its semiconductor manufacturing in the first place. It is time to make those devices in this country, and rely on no other source.

Not long ago we didn't rely on China for anything. It was turncoat profiteers who changed that situation. We could, in fact, return to self sufficiency with a couple of years if we actually desired to do that.

Destroying our self sufficiency was planned, meant to usher in global governance. You are watching the final stages of that government replacing our own.

True. An issue the previous President brought up. And they got rid of him.

And of course, throughout all the talk about China and Taiwan, I never heard about a chip company announcing that they’d be bringing some of that manufacturing back home.

There announcements about chip companies coming, not sure if they ever did.
