I remember when Cher supported Perot in 1992.

Carter was a pillar of strength compared to Biden.

Since when does the ‘ex-pert’ care about the US? I thought she was all about the communist order?

The Beat Goes On I guess. Elections do have consequences. Putting a Clown and a Camel in office at the same time wasn’t very wise. It was bound to become a circus.

Hitler got started in 1935 and people like you thought he was a joke. The prevailing wisdom in France even going into 1939 was that there was no way the Germans were going to attack France.

Yet they did.

And unless the Russians have a reason to stop at Ukraine then why should they stop?

Below is a letter from a genealogist/geneticist discussing Russia and the Ukraine:

All eyes are on Eastern Europe...
What’s going on over there?

Is history repeating itself?

What are they fighting about?

Well, I promised a geneticist’s perspective...

And genetically speaking, there isn’t a ton to talk about...

Ethnically speaking, “Russians” and “Ukrainians” are two distinct groups.

Genetically speaking, those two ethnic groups are VERY similar.

This is due to the extensive shared history the two civilizations have.

In fact, the very first “Russian” nation and very first “Ukrainian” nation were the same!

If you look at the history of Russia and Ukraine, the first distinct nation in the history of both was the Kievan Rus’. During the 10th and 11th centuries (the Middle Ages), this was the largest and most powerful state in Europe.

For almost 300 years, the capital city of both “Ukraine” and “Russia” was Kyiv. It’s known in history as “the Golden Age of Kyiv.”

The Kievan Rus’ fell victim to Mongolian conquests in the 13th century. For several centuries after the fall, the region of Ukraine was largely under the control of its neighbors, such as Lithuania and Poland.

Meanwhile, a new Russian nation was already forming in Moscow by the 14th century. First known as the Grand Duchy of Moscow, it laid the foundation for the Tsardom of Russia that lasted until the 20th century and saw a massive expansion of borders.

In the 17th century, the region of Ukraine was included in that expansion of borders. This was the first time Ukrainians were subjected to specifically-Russian rule.

When the Tsardom fell to revolution in 1917, an independent Ukraine emerged that same year... Well, a couple independent Ukraines, really. Ukraine was relatively prosperous for a few years while Russia was engulfed in civil war.

However, regional disputes and revolution drowned this newly independent Ukraine in civil war by 1919. The newly formed Soviet Union in Russia took advantage of the conflict to retake most of Ukraine by the 1920s.Whatever Ukraine’s relationship with Russia was like in the past, it was not particularly smooth under Soviet leadership...

A massive famine occurred in the 1930s that’s known as the Holomodor. The term “Holomodor” refers to the man-made causes of the famine, including a rejection of foreign aid, confiscation of food, and restriction of movement enforced by Soviet authorities. It was an unprecedented peacetime catastrophe that cost millions of lives, most of which were ethnic Ukrainians. Today’s Ukraine and several other nations, including the United States, consider it a genocide against Ukrainian people.

In 1986, Ukraine suffered another unprecedented peacetime catastrophe: the Chernobyl nuclear reactor explosion. While certainly not intentional, this was another costly disaster at the hands of Soviet authorities.

By 1990, Ukrainian people were protesting in the streets. Massive groups would stand together holding hands, forming human chains as a show of unity.

Ukraine achieved independence once again in 1991, alongside several other nations seceding from the Soviet Union. Today’s Russian Federation formed not long after.

With this much history intertwined, it’s not too surprising that ethnic Ukrainians and ethnic Russians are very genetically similar to each other.

Even today, the two nations are significantly intertwined, as over 3 million ethnic Ukrainians live in Russia and almost 7 million ethnic Russians live in Ukraine.

So what’s all the fighting about??

Well, unfortunately, some of the worst fights happen within the family...

I’m not sure if a “happy ending” is possible with this one, but I’m holding onto hope that peace prevails.

That’s all for today. Thanks for reading.

Sincerely,

Alexei Fedorov,
CRI Genetics
