Non Sequitur
Hurricane Michael sure did ruin a lot of people’s lives that way.
I am not opposed in principle to electic cars, but the concerns about fires with the present types of batteries is real. I hope that solid-state types of future batteries will be less prone to self-destruction. I’ve had a relatively small lithium battery go off in an iPad while I was replacing a set and it was amazingly bad. The reason that it happened was that someone at Apple got too gung-ho with the glue and tape, and I punctured one of the cells while trying to remove the set from the case.
An ICE vehicle catches fire every 96 seconds in the USA:
What is the real purpose of electric cars? Where does the electricity to charge the batteries come from? What does it cost to replace car battery in a medium sixed car?
What is an “ICE” vehicle?
Internal Combustion Engine? Yeah nothing is FOOL-Proof. Car drivers should inspect under the hood regularly. And get familiar with routine maintenance. In 60 years of driving cars, I have never been stranded due to car being disabled. They are phenomenally dependable if one just learns the basics.
“Yeah nothing is FOOL-Proof.”
ICE cars have been on the road for 130 years but already EV’s have a better fire safety record.
Please answer these simple questions:
What is the real purpose of electric cars? Where does the electricity to charge the batteries come from? What does it cost to replace car battery in a medium sixed car?
“What is the real purpose of electric cars?
> To provide transportation
Where does the electricity to charge the batteries come from?
>Burning NG and providing electricity to an EV is more efficient than an ICE car. Besides that, we also have nuclear and hydro. Some are charging their car with roof solar cells.
What does it cost to replace car battery in a medium sixed car?
>Depends. With a 500,000+ miles lifetime it is not a big concern. Next Gen batteries will be 1,000,000+ miles.
Burning natural gas creates CO2, so environment is not any better.
Electricity by nuclear and hydro is generated MILES away from the charging stations. Cost of infrastructure to transport electricity, and the power loss over transmission lines and transformers are significantly high.
2 weeks ago there was a serious accident on I-95 in Georgia or South Carolina (I forget exact location). It was a cold night. The electric car drivers were freezing in their cars and were begging truck drivers for shelter. A dead battery on a highway is far more expensive to recoup since the car must be towed. An ICE car only needs delivery of a can of gas.
And there are 10,000 times more locations to buy gasoline than there are public charging stations for car batteries.
No thanks, No EV for me for 20 years at least.
the only way to beat the house is not to play. FReegards my wise FRiend.

“Burning natural gas creates CO2, so environment is not any better.”
Are you an eco-freak?
“Electricity by nuclear and hydro is generated MILES away from the charging stations.”
Oil is pumped thousands of miles to refineries and then to blending facilities and then trucked to gas stations.
“And there are 10,000 times more locations to buy gasoline than there are public charging stations for car batteries.”
When the Model-T rolled off the assembly line there were zero gas stations.
If it’s true that “everything is on fire five meters above the waterline,” that bad boy is probably going down.
Glad my Yugo wasn’t on board.
1) Headline wrong. Not in mid-Atlantic; near coast of Portugal.
2) Reports on TV said the ship owner arranged to have the tow of the still burning ship. It’s not some salvage outfit.
“>Burning NG and providing electricity to an EV is more efficient than an ICE car.”
Let’s see.... When electricity is generated, only 36% of the original energy makes it to the precious little EV batteries.
