If this is a criminal case, how can he be forced to testify against himself? All he has to say is Fifth Amendment.

Not being an attorney, I am not familiar with the vagaries of the law. But I remember an incident where an individual facing the possibility of criminal charges answered a number of questions but than pleaded the Fifth when they got to the possible criminal conduct. Some judge ruled it was too late to plead the Fifth once the person had answered other questions that could be related to criminal conduct. . Not sure what happened after, if the judge was overruled on appeal or what not. I just remember it because it was interesting.

Seems to me, Trump and family should simply claim the fifth and not answer a single question.

Well, for you and I that's true. It's true for him too but he's also a public figure and it would be front page every night: "He admitted it! He admitted it!"

“If this is a criminal case, how can he be forced to testify against himself? All he has to say is Fifth Amendment.”

Read the first sentence of the article. It clearly states this is a civil investigation: “Former President Donald Trump must answer questions under oath in New York state’s civil investigation into his business practices, a judge ruled Thursday.”

Please understand this most recent persecution of Trump has little to do with suspected criminal activity -- that's just the "good reason" to proceed.

No. This is yet another attempt of the feckless Communist/Left in this country to damage Trump's influence with the upcoming midterm election and beyond.

Actually this is supposed to be civil case. So, he has an perfect out to just plead the fifth because the Manhattan DA is pursuing a criminal case. They cannot give him immunity from that so he has no choice but to plead the fifth. See, that is what will make headlines, Trump Pleads Fifth. That is what they want.

This is lawfare. Keep him busy with attorneys, the meter keeps running. He really hit a nerve with these people.
