Munger and Buffett owned 20 percent of Moody’s when they were whoring out AAA ratings on dog$shit mortgage bonds from 2000 to 2006. They sold out of Moody’s then the bottom dropped out in 2008 (Sept 12th, to be exact).
If you can pin the entire mess on two people, they are it. All Uncle Warren had to do was to get on TV and say Fitch and S&P were whoring their ratings and the entire jig would have been up. AIG kept insuring AAA rated MBS at AAA rates. Had AIG ACTUALLY looked at the underlying mortgages, they would have failed to rate.
SOME within AIG actually did. They were told to rerate, or be fired.
