Feds oppose immediate release of voting machine report

ATLANTA (AP) — A federal cybersecurity agency says a report by an expert who says he’s identified security vulnerabilities in voting machines used by Georgia and other states shouldn’t be made public until it has had time to assess and mitigate potential risks.

The report has been under seal since July in federal court in Atlanta, part of a long-running lawsuit challenging Georgia’s voting machines. Its author, J. Alex Halderman, said in sworn declarations filed publicly with the court that he examined the Dominion Voting Systems machines for 12 weeks and identified “multiple severe security flaws” that would allow bad actors to install malicious software.

Plaintiffs in the case, who are election security advocates and individual voters, have for months called for the release of a redacted version of the report and urged that it be shared with state and federal election security officials. Lawyers for the state had repeatedly objected to those requests, but Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger last month put out a news release calling for its release.

U.S. District Judge Amy Totenberg agreed on Feb. 2 that the report could be shared with the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency, or CISA. The agency said in a court filing Thursday that it would work with Halderman and Dominion to analyze potential vulnerabilities, develop any necessary mitigation measures and work with jurisdictions that use the machines to test and apply any protections.

In private industry, those people are jettisoned. In government, no accountability happens unless they are on the right end of the political spectrum. We all know it. They know it. Yet it happens. Our government, in general, has become a joke. Yet not a joke for those who get 6am no-knock raids.

Happens every...single...time. They don’t even try to hide it anymore. Without a curious media, there is no accountability.

Well said. In a few months I am giving a presentation of the function of the Dominion Voting Systems to my Republican Town Committee, and I could not be more in agreement.

Like you, I believe this should be open source software ONLY, and the entire apparatus should be online for people to be able to see.

I have had to gain knowledge about the construction and operation of these systems by looking at a Dominion generic diagram from an Internet source and reverse engineering how they work.

I should be able to go to my town website and see EVERYTHING about these systems.

Funny the election is in November but somehow we just can not tell you about these because of the risk. Why? nothing can be exploited until they are in use and they will not be used until Nov. THERE IS NO RISK! It should be exposed now so all can know it was fixed. That is what happens in a sane word

They only reason to not tell us is to hide tapering as they make a different vulnerability and hide / close the old one they used previously.

Okay, GA voters, the ball is in your court.

All RINOs who must face a primary in your state legislature this year should be voted out and replaced with constitutional patriots, especially Kemp and Rat-boy.

That is the quickest way to fix what is wrong in your state.

Voting machines must never be used again. Insanely stupid to ever use them in the first place. SMH

I’m sorry. They’ve had almost 2 years to check the machines and failed to do so.

Their time to ‘investigate’ is REVOKED! Time to step aside and let True the Vote show you how it’s done.

I don’t think things are possible vulnerabilities...

I think these are planned and were actually used.

The computer only does what it’s programmed to do

I’d like to see the source code for these “vulnerabilities”, I could tell you right away whether it was planned or not.

If this (or any) report was damaging to Republicans/Conservative, the New York Times would already have leaked it.
