New York Democrats’ bet on racial gerrymandering is riskier than they realize

New York Democrats are going big on gerrymandering as they seize control of redistricting. But they may get bitten by their assumption that they have a permanent lock on non-white voters.

Consider the two new state Senate seats in the city, one in heavily Hispanic parts of Queens and Brooklyn, another in heavily Asian parts of Brooklyn.

Dems clearly think those minority votes belong to them by default. But do they?

Perhaps the biggest political story of the past four years has been the realignment of Hispanic and Asian voters across America with the GOP.

Dear God, Let it be so!

Confuse the counsels of those who do evil and look to cheat and steal their way into power.

Thwart their plans and bring them to nothing.

In Jesus’ name.

Amen. They can play the identity game - some may eat it up but hopefully enough others don’t like how the Democrats claim to own them.

As I mentioned in another thread, the Dems are generally seeking very aggressive redistricting lines across the country, which is to say that they’re seeking to put more districts “in play” at the expense of having fewer “safe” Dem districts. The idea that the Dems are going to run the table in all those marginal districts is certainly part of their plan, but it seems to me that the whole thing could backfire spectacularly in a “red wave” election.

Re: "Perhaps the biggest political story of the past four years has been the realignment of Hispanic and Asian voters across America with the GOP."

Say what?

2018 Mid-Term - National Exit Poll - 18,778 Respondents

Hispanic Vote - 69% Democrat

Asian Vote - 77% Democrat

2020 Presidential Election - National Exit Poll

Hispanic Vote - Trump - 32%

Asian Vote - Trump - 34%

Thank you for the much needed prayer, metmom, because our Republican leadership is doing NOTHING of consequence.

Why...because they discovered that Blacks and Hispanics have a MIND OF THEIR OWN.

Which makes jerrymandering useless.

Biden brought in 4 million new voters just to make this play.

Asian? I would welcome Asians waking up to the fact that its the Democrats who discriminate against them, not the Republicans. Its the Democrats who are against law and order, not the Republicans. But so far I have not seen the evidence that Asians are starting to wake up the way that Hispanic voters seem to be.

Exit polls are unreliable. Many people say what will be “acceptable.” And many won’t answer at all.

I see no statistical evidence of Asians moving over to the GOP. Hispanics in Florida, Texas, and even NJ yes, but Hispanics are culturally western so that is no surprise.

That’s because Asians are not western, unlike Hispanics/Latinos. Different mindset/worldview.
