Camilla will be crowned Queen Consort when Charles becomes King, it has been confirmed for the first time.
The Queen assured the Duchess of Cornwall's future status in an historic Platinum Jubilee statement issued late last night, ending years of uncertainty over the issue.
In her surprise announcement, Her Majesty declared it was her 'sincere wish' for her daughter-in-law to be fully acknowledged when Charles succeeds her.
The Queen issued the message, shoring up her support for her heir and his wife, as she today marks a milestone 70 years on the Throne.
The statement also quashed speculation that the 95-year-old Monarch might abdicate, as she reiterated her Coronation pledge. She told her subjects 'my life will always be devoted to your service' – and that she would continue to honour that 'with all my heart'.
In her message to the nation – signed 'Your Servant, Elizabeth R' – the Queen said: 'When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.'
Charles and Camilla were 'touched and honoured' by the Queen's gesture, Clarence House said.
The prince will make his own public declaration on Sunday celebrating his mother's Jubilee.
A spokesman for the couple said: 'The Prince of Wales will be issuing a statement of congratulation to the Queen on Accession Day. He and the Duchess of Cornwall are touched and honoured by Her Majesty's words.'

She got everything that was or would have been Diana’s, except she prudently didn’t use her Princess of Wales title (Camilla is Princess of Wales), and she didn’t produce Charles’s heir. Unlike Anne Boleyn, her bloodline will not be part of the British monarchy, so she wasn’t able to usurp Diana in that way. Once William becomes king, the Brits can forget all about Camilla.
As stupid as Charles is, dark days for Britain ahead.
I don’t think the Brits do like her very much. She is always near the bottom of the favorite royal polls.
Queen Elizabeth made sure her kid-diddling son Andrew got away with his crimes. She had the ability to protect and help sex trafficking victims, she chose to shield her son instead. Whatever else she did or does in life, she did that.
Her entire reign has been an effort to protect the crown and royal traditions in England. In some ways, it's been admirable and possibly even brave. In other ways, she protects child predators who happened to be born into royalty. Making a pre-emptive announcement about the Queen Consort thing is probably her attempt at keeping yet another Crown-threatening act from destabilizing the royal family. Charles probably was going to do the whole Queen Consort thing anyway, and knowing he won't be a particularly popular king, she again shields a son from fallout and scandal.

Actually, her parents didn’t want her to join the military aid but she insisted. It was where she learned to drive too. I heard a biographer say Elizabeth drove her family bonkers talking about engine blocks and what she learned. You have to remember that she wasn’t expected to be Queen and her family lived quietly. When her uncle abdicated everything changed and she wasn’t used to the restrictions of being the heir. She didn’t mind getting her hands dirty.
