NFL star Tom Brady on Tuesday officially announces retirement.

The 44-year-old Brady made the announcement on Istagram, following unconfirmed news reports this past weekend.

It’s always easier to no have money as a driving force when your wife is making more money than anybody in the NFL. I mean it’s possible he’d have still recognized how the cap works and gone cheap for titles if he’d married a “normal” sport wife. We’ll never know for sure.

How many Hall of Famers did Montana have around him, versus Brady?

Well, if we look at Montana's first two Super Bowls and only consider offensive players, it would be zero. On defense it would be Ronnie Lott (who was playing cornerback then, though he'd move to safety in the latter portions of his career.

For Montana's third and fourth Super Bowls, he had Jerry Rice on offense, which is no small thing - Rice is the best WR ever to play the game. On defense he had Lott and Charles Haley.

Yeah, I’m reluctant to admit that as well. Montana, to me, was the gold standard. He could thread a needle from across the field. It was a pleasure to watch him. And he had class. But Brady has certainly earned his spot in NFL greatness.

Yup. He deserves the call for #1 based on his durability as much as anything else. Montana's durability was always a question once he passed the 5 year mark in his career.
