Of all the burdens Manhattan has borne this January, the imminent closing of the 24-hour Midtown West Rite Aid hardly qualifies as a tragedy. But the fact that an otherwise-thriving major corporation is giving up on core Manhattan matters for our decaying borough.
The pharmacy, on 8th Avenue and 50th Street, will close Feb. 8. Last week, it was effectively already shuttered, with most of the store cordoned off with gates. Just a small, strange assortment — children’s coloring books jumbled with vitamins — was marooned on front shelves on “clearance.”
The clearance prices were ironic — because the reason the Rite Aid is closing is mass-scale shoplifting. As The Post reported last week, the shop lost $200,000 in goods in two months.

Yes, I am bewildered that this hasn't happened.

Welcome to the third world NYC, you deserve it.

I think they are trying but they’re dealing with Stalins and Hitlers and Maos and that type knows better.
The old race track?
My opinion. Drive productive people out of the cities and decrease real estate values. Bring in illegals/invaders to fill them back up. Big city dwellers move to the suburbs to move them further left and big cities are replenished with more liberals. Evil geniuses they are.
I think it's on purpose:

These shoplifters aren’t “kleptomaniacs.” They are organized groups that sell the stolen goods online, often to feed their drug habits.
This just furthers the devastation of NYC. Either the leaders are idiots or this is on purpose. You would think the money men of NYC would convince the leaders to stop the problem. So I guess I answered my own question.
When there is no hope and no new wealth being created it becomes a game of marbles. There are only so many marbles and the goal is to get your share before the game ends.

Good thought, I just need to figure out how owning an office building which you cannot lease out enough to space to generate a profit is not a liability instead of an asset. Maybe it’s the gentrification of office building plan?
Since restitution would be a fool’s dream in this case, let’s start by putting security guards that are armed to the teeth at entrances to retailers. Give the guards military grade weaponry and the finest body armor on this planet. If anyone walks out with stolen merchandise, shoot the perps without trying to damage the goods themselves. Since cameras won’t be enough, the guards should also patrol aisles and checkout lanes.
Right on!!!!!
I like it!!!!
Wait...there was still a Rite Aid open somewhere?
Wonderful! That is the Democrat Party’s dream: To total and completely destroy the United States of America. And with the help of the People, they have almost succeeded. President Trump thought he could reverse the trend. He was shown that he could not and kicked out of Office in the 2020 elections. The People replaced him with Lying Joe Biden. A charter member of the Destroy America Club.

The govt IS the economy even though we think differently. we tend to manage the past, not the present.
There are some areas of the economy where there is less govt but I have not found anywhere there is no govt.
The only good gangs are chain gangs.
Head-em up move-em out
Gone are the days when looters were shot on sight. Sigh!
